The Pensione Accademia used to be the Russian consulate a few hundred years back. This lovely villa is on a side canal just off the Canal Grande. This lovely villa is on a side canal just off the Canal Grande. The rooms are well appointed, the furnitue is antique, the place is elegant and classy and is unusual in Venice in having a front and back garden, the back one being especially lovely. The front is where you breakfast - only watch out for the local pigeons which have learned to dive bomb the tables given half a chance - i.e. leaving it unattended for even a split second. This part of town is quiet and romantic and the walk through Venice from it at night in particular is heart-stoppingly beautiful. The staff are courteous and efficient and all in all it is in my view an ideal place to stay. But don't be fooled by the word "Pensione". A Venice pensione will set you back as much as a four star hotel in some other resorts, so be warned!close
