Toronto guide
This urban metropolis is on a par with many of North America’s top cities. Toronto offers both a modern & a traditional side with architecture ranging in style from the ultra modern- like the CN Tower, one of the tallest buildings in the world, to traditional Victorian & Edwardian buildings found in the Rosedale & Forest Hill Downtown suburbs. The city is famous for its medley of cultures boasting its own Little Italy, Greektown & two Chinatown districts. The city comes alive through its various festivals throughout the year-including the famous Toronto Film Festival, which takes place annually in September, & Pride Week, one of the largest gay pride festivals in the world, annually held the last week of June. So whether it’s a wild party holiday or a cultural break- Toronto has it covered.

If you`re lucky enough to see a hockey game then that should pretty much cover it. Nightlife was really awesome - pity it finished relatively early, about 2-2.30am - and after-hours clubs, which are few and far between, don`t sell drinks. I went during Easter weekend which was very cold for that time of the year, minus 13 wind shields, so I saw the falls in a blizzard - yes it was still snowing in April! Eating out was good, fairly pricey if you dont look around - i suggest lonley planet USA and Canada on a shoestring to start you off though I noticed there are plenty of places on King Street. Theres about 20 startbucks downtown and just as many with other well-known cafe franchises so theres plenty of places to chill. Overall Toronto is a great place to spend a few days in going out and soaking the atmosphere but I wouldn`t give it more than a week.close

The underground PATH system in downtown was awesome for getting around without freezing your ass off on the surface. Great sights to see and plenty to do all around. Eaton Centre and Bloor street is the place to be for serious shopping. CN Tower, arguably the tallest free standing building in the world is worth a visit, just to stand under it and look up if you don't want to spend the $20CDN to go up the elevator. Those of you scared of heights, it's a LONG way up in a GLASS elevator so pls don't pee in your pants cuz there's no such things as "let me off" in the middle. Overall, great city to visit.close

Forget the Global Village unless you just want to get hammered and laid with some smelly pikey from God only knows where. I stayed at the Canadiana Inn for a whole month and had a very homely welcome everyday for the duration of my stay. Chris, the proprietor, was very hands on in the running of the place and so there was never the "us and them" environment you so often see at many hostels. The whole set up of the place from the tea and coffee area, the patio/BBQ area, the fully equipped kitchen and laundry, the Internet and wi-fi, even the in house movie theatre in the basement; these are all aspects of the right combination which make the Canadiana Inn a winning formula. As soon as I set foot through the front door, I was immediately made to feel as though I was home by the welcoming of all the amazing Canadiana Inn staff. They all appreciate your circumstances albeit as they themselves have been backpackers before, so they all know the drill and will go out of their way to help you as best they can. As far as feeling welcome goes, within an hour of checking in, I'd already met Harry; the resident king of karaoke; and was dueting "Iris" by the Goo-Goo Dolls just over the road at the local pub, the Fox and the Fiddle. This set the pace for my stay here. It's lively, fun, safe, very clean - THANKS THERESA - and always a pleasure, never a chore. I highly recommend you stay here over anywhere else in Toronto. Go on, live a little and have your holiday YOUR WAY. Book yourself a stay here, you'll only regret it if you don't! Thanks guys for the best month ever! Kisses, Colette-Elizabeth. 1It's not luxury travel by any stretch of the imagination, but if you're looking for a cheap place to stay at the heart of the city without having to share a room with 5 other people, it's a good choice. Remarkably similar to a University residence.
