Slight dripping noise coming from toilet. Some shelf space would be useful. We enjoyed our visit and would be happy to return.

Japanese style room, although not clear from hostel world site. Close to two subway stations.

We had a tatami room for three, which was excellent. The 10-minute walk to Ueno station also a big plus, providing easy access to Narita.

This is a nice, peaceful and well-run hotel. The rooms are clean and adequately equipped. Ueno is a good base for sightseeing, and the station is connected to many metro and train lines.

The map on the website is very vague. I would recommend hailing a taxi and having them drive you the rest of the way. From Ueno or Ueno-Okachimachi stations, it should only be a few hundred yen. The staff was friendly, speaking smatterings of English, but enough to get by. They want you to leave your room key at the front desk everyday when you leave, so if that weirds you out, I wouldn't suggest going there. Its a bit far from the happening parts of the city, but very close to a subway station and the JR line, so you can get anywhere you need to go relatively quickly. The Japanese style rooms are an experience, but kind of uncomfortable if you're used to a big fluffy bed. Not a party place at all. We didn't meet any other travelers. Nice place, though. We really liked the Bakpak Tokyo Hostel off the Minowa exit on the Hibiya line if you are looking for a more hostel-type traveling experience. I would stay there again, though.close

This hotel seemed overpriced for the size of the room (even by Japanese standards). This is not a place to stay for anyone who wants to talk to other travellers. However the location is excellent - about 5min walk up to Ueno, and great access to JR / Keisei / subway lines.

The place is great, located in a good area, close to Keisei Skyliner station, to Okachimachi JR station, and to Ueno Park. It is a bit hard to find, although it is close to those places. I stayed there with my family, and I am quite satisfied with the place.

The front desk lady is very friendly and helpful in giving advice on places of interest. The Hotel is located further than expected. The bathroom is small, which is just enough for an average size Asian lady.

Last minute booking and great choice. The hotel is near Ueno station, that means that from Narita Airport you can be there in more or less one hour. The hotel itself don´t look so special, but we was on a double room ensuite that was small but so clean and comfortable.

Ueno First City Hotel proved to be extremely difficult to find. A two hour search for the hotel was complicated by a very poor and confusing location map provided on the website. This map bears no relation to the location of the hotel and would be better for all if it was simply removed.

A basic but clean place to stay. It does the job. Not too far from both Ueno Stations, and can therefore be used to explore the city and as a place to stay before catching the train to Narita Airport.
