Sopot is part of the Tri-City conurbation of Gdansk-Sopot-Gdynia. It is a seaside resort very popular with Poles and now the Germans and Scandinavians are also beginning to discover it. I can understand why. It is a lovely little town with a very pretty main street, a beautiful seafront promenade and park and some really excellent restaurants. Gdansk is a short train ride away, as is Gdynia (but not much to see there). I would recommend Sopot for someone who likes the seaside but doesn't like the Mediterranean. There is a tennis tournament there during the summer and a number of music festivals, so there are things to do. There is also a festival of organ music every summer in the nearby Oliwa Cathedral which is well worth attending. Sea, sand, a lovely resort, good food with music and culture thrown in - a winner. It deserves to be discovered by more people.
