I've been to Redwood twice and both visits were rewarded with delicious food. Love the interior design, staff are friendly and efficient. What more could you ask for. Will definitely be going back.

  • Friendly, informal restaurant serving fresh virbrant Californian flavours - ideal 'cheer you up' food. BYOB means it is an affordable night out - especially if you want a rest (through the week) from cooking...!

  • Excellent starters but a too heavily sauced main of beef and mash, the latter of which had too much chorizo in it, prevents me giving it a higher score. Will be back, though, because a weekly-changing short menu and BYO policy (for now) should keep it fresh.

  • First visit on personal recommendation of friends. Great choice. Food excellent with generous portions. Like the roasted garlic and oil offered with bread!. Will be back

  • We had dinner at Redwood last night after a recommendation from a friend who works in the food industry. What an absolute gem! The food was delicious – the prawn skewers were plump and juicy with a smoky chilli mayo & the black bean cakes with a fresh tomato salsa were fantastic. The mackerel with a creative sweet & sour green olive salsa was faultless. The service was excellent–very friendly, attentive & knowledgeable. The atmosphere is relaxed and cosy, not a hint of pretention. Will return!

  • Redwood is a great new addition to Edinburgh and offers something different. The food was really fresh and has quite a mexican influence, service was excellent. As the menu changes every week, I'd definitely go back to try out a new dish.

Description of Redwood from toptable.com

"Homesick Californainas, local gastro geeks and gourmet travellers alike adore Redwood - a laid-back and cosy neighbourhood haunt on St Stephen's Street in Stockbridge, Edinburgh. We adore the genuinely friendly stateside-style service here, and the parquet-floored dining room is a warm space decorated with chocolate browns, ruby reds and walnut furniture. Chef/owner Annette Sprague is a Californian native, and her moreish menu is filled with fresh and sunny specials such as the warm sweet corn fritters with fresh tomato salsa, sour cream and rocket; the roasted salmon with salsa verde, black beans, pickled red onions and sugar snap peas; and the fresh fig tart with lemon-raspberry marscapone drizzled with honey for pudding."
