Staff very helpful and willing to help you with anything. Apartment was very clean and decorated well. Daily maid service - Plenty of tea and coffee etc was left for us on arrival and lasted the 4 days that we were there. Views of the Forth were fantastic. Breakfast in the hotel was very good - plenty to eat but need to order cooked breakfast the evening before if you want this. The apartment was within walking distance for Princes St and not far from the Castle and many attractions and shops, restuarants etc. Would recommend this Apartment to stay in., a little bit noisy with the traffic at the front of the apartment but can get to sleep.close

This place was great - huge beds, excellent bathrooms and nice rooms. However, the hotel is basically on top of one of Edinburghs busiest and noisiest pubs/bars, so don't stay here if you want a quiet nights sleep. We managed to get a quiet room on the third floor, but most rooms would be very...

There are a lot of stairs to climb if you are on the top floor!

Extremely well located and easy to find hotel. Our room was beautiful! The staff were great and even gave me advice on where to go (pubs and restaurants) without me even asking!

Everything from correspondence, to payments, to unusual requests were responded to immediately & from the first point of contact I had 100% in the Ballantrae that I had made a good choice. WILL DEFINETLY RECOMMEND YOU GUYS TO ALL FUTURE FRIENDS TRAVELLING TO EDINBURGH.close

The first night I had about an hours sleep as someone was causing a shouting all night in one of the upper bedrooms. You can also hear every person coming in at night and chatting before goint up to their rooms as the front door and stairs are near the room. Tthe room was next to the bar/breakfast room and the kitchen was behind it, we were woken early every morning whilst breakfast was prepared. The noise was unbearable at times but we stuck with it for ease. At breakfast one morning I noticed the rolls were mouldy, I stuck with toast. Our visit to Edinburgh was very enjoyable, I would suggest however that the Ballantrae Hotel do not use the ground floor room in future unless they sound proof itclose

I'm afraid I had to cancel my break as I was sent home ill from work. I am a bit disappointed though that I am out of pocket for my deposit and £50 for the first night of stay.

Don't believe the "elegent" subtitle. It was very basic with old, worn, cheap furnishings. Not a place you want to spend most of hte time. It seems (not sure though) that most or all of the rooms are in the basement of the building, and over half only have little half windows to the streets, like ours did. Breakfast was nothing to speak of - cheap breads etc. But the tea was good and the staff seemed nice overall. Location was fine - a few blocks from the middle of things in the "new town" -- so not up on the hill in old town. Also there's no lock up area to keep your things for a few hours... All in all, not terrible, but I wouldn't stay there again unless I couldn't find anything else.close
