Edinburgh guide
Edinburgh is a city which you will warm to straight away. Walking down Princes Street, the city's main thoroughfare, Edinburgh Castle hangs proudly over the Scottish capital reminding the locals and tourists alike of the city's medieval past. There are endless streets to explore, both in the Old and New Towns, numerous shops to keep the shopaholics occupied, while at night the city comes alive with an eclectic mix of young and old filling the city's many restaurants, bars and clubs.

Gothic, neoclassic and victorian architecture styles give an atmosphere you hardly could find in another place. First I have to say that I went there to partecipate to the Edinburgh International Harp Festival (yeah! I'm a celtic-harpist ;) ) which has been FANTASTIC, but I also took advantage of being there to visit the city. Bagpipers anywhere you look at and the dark stones contrasting the green hills make the panorama quite mysterious. Tha castle on the rock gives you a magnific view of what is all around and you can't miss visiting it..maybe waiting also for 1 o'clock p.m. in work days eheh ;) Many museums are free and beautiful (the National Art gallery, for example) and also the whole Royal Mile is really really interesting. We preferred drinking and eating in pubs, which are quite cheap (dinner for 10, including extraordinary beer) and...if you like music, this is your city! many shops of instruments and live music quite anywhere after 10 p.m. :D I have bought so many sheets of traditional written music that I thought they couldn't enter the luggages...but they finally could! :) Great city, great staying, great music, friends and beer! Enjoy Edinburgh ;Dclose

It only takes you a few minutes, to stand on the bridge that leads to the Old Town and have a look around. It is amazing, like being in a different era. Iwouldnt be surprised if there were no cars! Tall, gothic buildings, stone layered streets, sweet little houses, colourful shops and the constant feeling of a cold breeze are Edis main feautures. Its a compact city, ideal for those who enjoy a long walk, you can visit most of the main attractions in just 1-2 hrs. For those fans of art, Edi is a heaven, with the dark, gothic architecture, the museum of Scotland (go up to the terrace, the view is priceless), the National Gallery. There is of course the commercial side of the city, with Princess Str. and its brand shops. But my favourite part of the weekend was the walk up to Carlton Hill. Greatest view of the city, simple breathtaking. Overall, Edinburgh is a city that, I think, stands out because of the feeling it gives to the traveller, a feeling that you live in a medieval, yet kinda modern, fairytale. Highly recommended. close

There is so much whiskey there!!! Despite really bad weather, we had a great weekend ! There is so much to do in Edinburgh (if you can keep away from the whiskey!) such as sight seeing, tours, shopping, eating in the beautiful restaurants and drinking in the many pubs that you will never be bored! Even after all the sight seeing and tours are done, just wandering the quaint streets around the Royal Mile is the Grass Market area is a great way to spend an afternoon or evening! I was blown away by the architecture in the city and you get a great feel for the history as you walk around. There is a certain magic in Edinburgh which can really be felt as you walk the Royal Mile especially up near the castle grounds. It is bustling with tourists from all over the world. Edinburgh Castle dominates the city, and as soon as you lay eyes on it, you will realise why 1000’s of tourists come to see the castle every year. It is really amazing! Our tour of the castle was definitely my main highlight. There were many other highlights of my trip - two more on the top of my list were the walk to King Arthur’s Seat where you can take in great views of the city and spending an afternoon in Princes Street Gardens. Edinburgh is well worth a visit - a little expensive but I recommend it 100%!close
