I lived in Hokkaido for a number of years. I like it a lot. However, if I were visiting Japan for the first time, I wouldn't go there. Backpackers Hostel Ino's Place 91%
Really lovely hostel. Very clean and has everything from irons to hairdryers! Staff are really helpful and kind. Really good BBQ place on the main road - follow the smell it is incredible!
