Great shopping if you like jewellery! I could have spent a fortune. Visit the cathedral - its incredible. Fabulous food - especially a place called -42 (I think). Try the octopus (pulpo) - just the plain one. Its perfect.

A seafood paradise awaits you in this fabulous galician city of the field of stars. A pilgrimage site for 1000 years, Santiago has plenty for the faithful and tourist alike. The centre piece of the city is the fantasic 13th Century Cathedral with a imposing 16th Century facade. Here lies the mortal remains of St. James 'Moromatar' who has a special place in Spainsh hearts. The new town boasts shops, bars and nightclubs, but the real attraction lies in the pedestrianised streets of the old town where you can wander from cafe to cafe, sampleing great tapas as you go. The real culinary adventure starts in the evening with delights from every corner of the sea. Lobster and crab vi for poition in the restaurant tanks waiting for their turn on the menu.Barnicles, oysters, and the amazingly tasty Navajas (razor shell clams) are other options but the real speciality is Pulpo Gallego (Octopus in oil and paprika). All in all the city is fantastic value for money with a glass of wine in a cafe about 1E to a full three course seafood dinner for two at 60E. Santiago is a charming city and well worth a stop on anyones itnerary!

We spent 2 days in the city, whilst basing ourselves there for 5 days. It's well placed on the rail network for getting to the rest of Galicia & it's well worth taking a look at the surrounding countryside. Staff in bars & restuarant were, with one notable exception, extremely friendly & helpful. Given the area's reputation for rain, we were extremely lucky with the weather on our trip.

its all about the cathedral - not alot else in terms of sights. alot of resaurantes and bars so a good place to chill out and relax for a weekend. apparently it rains alot and it rained each morning on schedule! this was not a problem for me and the place is suppose to look better in the rain - its very green around the hills (you can smell a muskiness around town). a nice place to visit for a few days.

Santiago de Compostela is a great city to start a tour of northern spain. It is small and doesnt require too much energy in exploring it. The sights are amazing and a few days here will leave you feeling rested for the second leg of your journey.

Santiago de Compostela is a great place to visit if you want to experience a real Spanish way of living, Its a small place but it has so much compacted into it, amazing monuments to explore and beautiful scenary. There's many nice places where you can just sit and relax in the sun. The food and drink is good for the price and nightlife goes well on into the night so over all it has everything to offer for a great hoilday. Id deffinatly will visit again

santiago de compostela is a beuatiful little city, old winding cobble streets add to the atmosphere of the place. we were fortunate enough to arrive at the start of the 2week festival so much of the night was spent dancing to salsa and sipping on cheap cheap beer!such an awesome place to stay for fun and frolics!

If you are interested in history, culture, wonderful sightseeing and architecture, you will love Santiago de Compostela. Everywhere you look in the old city you will see beautiful architecture, quaint narrow cobbled streets and affordable cafes, restaurants and tapas bars where you can relax and read a book or just watch the world go by. It's a great place to relax and isn't completely over-run with tourists. The people are very friendly and helpful, even if you do not speak the language. The women are gorgeous too, which helps, and the lads aren't bad either I was told! Overall, Santiago de Compostela is well worth visiting.

Firstly, if you read any guide about Santiago de Compostela, they would have you believe that all there really is there is the old town. I didn't even wander out of it until well into my second day. There's a proper modern city if you keep walking south out of the old town, with bars, shops, cinemas etc. I realise that isn't what a lot of you are looking for, but having toured all the way round Spain, I really did have enough of cathedrals and plazas to last a life time. The old town is splendid, but you can only wander around the cobbled streets for so long before you get a bit tired of it, so it's worth a wee wander down into the main city.

The Old Town is small so one long day / overnight stay is sufficient. We didn't find much else of note in the local area - eg 70 miles from Santiago. Worth a visit but would not be on my "Must See Before You Die" list. It rains a lot in December based on our experience!

Santiago is far away from being only catholic walker's staff and it's a perfect starting point to visit Galicia. The cathedral is better than whatever San Pietro or Notre Dame

A charming city. During Easter week there were many free cultural events held around the city such as the Festival of Contemplative Music. The city is extremely picturesque & perfect for just strolling around with no fixed purpose, simply enjoying the atmosphere. There are lovely little cafes dotted around the city. Overall, very good value for money. My only small complaint was that it was much colder in April than I would have ever imagined! My first purchase was some gloves & an umbrella! But, despite the chill, I really hope to return to this lovely city in the future.

so basically it was a really cute little town. the buildings and everything were a lot different from any other town i've seen in spain so that was cool. for some reason it reminded me of england. a lot of the musuems are free and the pobo gallego museum is really interesting. basically it was cool there are a lot of parks to sit in. the new part of the city isn't that interesting though so just stay in the old part
