The island once served as a lighthouse, but is mostly recognised as a former prison. Al Capone was one of its most famous inmates. You can take a ferry tour around the island and also take in views of the Golden Gate Bridge.

“ Great visit, the boat trip over is well worth it alone. They are a few rules to follow on the island but overall the staff are really accommodating and more than willing to take pictures etc. It is really interesting and hard to believe in someways. Well worth it ”
