Aqua is really popular and has won lots of awards for its fine dining. We had a reservation for 8.45 and the restaurant was packed when we arrived. We were told they were a little behind and were asked to wait at the bar until our table was ready. There were lots of people seated at the bar enjoying appetizers with a glass of wine. The dining room is warm and elegant and Aqua definitely has a good atmosphere. Our table was eventually ready for us at 9.30pm so we were definitely hungry at that stage. Aqua does a 3 course menu for $72 or a tasting menu of 7 dishes for $105. We decided on the 3 course menu and our waiter gave us some great recommendations. He was very knowledgeable about each dish and was very helpful. The Maine scallops were excellent and the tartatre of ahi tuna was interesting. It's the restaurants speciality and is prepared at the table. It was very fresh and light but it wouldn't have been my favourite thing on the menu. The main course of Chamomille Scented Hawaiian Walu with Zucchini Carpaccio, Frisée & Foie Gras Salad and Licorice was excellent as was the White Sturgeon. We still had room for dessert and the chocolate tart with peanut butter crunch was very good. Aqua is quite pricey and definitely only for seafood lovers. Nice place for a treat and seems to be one of the 'in' places in San Francisco.close
