Rooms and Bathrooms need more attention to their cleanliness. Other than that, it's a very nice hostel! Thank you.

Overall a very pleasant place to stay, the staff was helpful, they always had stuff going on, free dinners, pub crawls, music on weekends. Definitely worth the money. Plus they had private bathrooms.

If Ferris Bueller was going to stay in a hostel, he'd stay at the Green Tortoise. You simply cannot fault it. They feed you, they entertain you, they house you. Stop looking anywhere else. Book. Here. Now.

Lots of fun activities planned! Right near Chinatown & North Beach. Beds are comfy, rooms are clean. The ballroom is always full of people at night, so great for meeting others ...& the hostel clown. Seriously. I'd stay there again.

My room, number 31 got so hot that night!!! And the window was over some other sleeping guys bed. And other than the snoring competition going on in my room, it was a lovely experience with super friendly staff. Although, I was very depressed to see so many people spread out eating, there's... more

This is a good hostel with plenty of stuff going on. It's in a great location and you get fed every second night for free!! It's pretty big too though so I think you lose a bit of the friendliness that small hostels have.

not a bad hostel. be warned. if you stay on a sunday night they have a very loud live band play at the venue until 2am. make sure you request a room well away from the band area. then you wont hear anything. otherwise not bad at all.

Description of Green Tortoise Backpackers

San Francisco's Favorite Party Hostel! The Green Tortoise Hostel has been a favorite of backpackers and travellers for decades. From our unbeatable location in historic North Beach (a quick walk to tourist favorites like Chinatown and Fisherman's Wharf), to our cozy dorm rooms, to our relaxing private rooms with free movies, to our free meals, live music, free beer nights and (in)famous pub crawls, to our famous Adventure Travel bus tours...those are just a few of the reasons the Tortoise has become a legend. If you're looking for a sterile, dull hostel that you can forget about the moment you leave San Francisco, the Tortoise isn't it. Time after time, our guests tell us that their favorite memories of San Francisco are of the times they spent in the hostel itself, meeting and hanging out with other backpackers, enjoying our live music nights, making friends while enjoying our free dinners (3 times a week) or free beer (every Tuesday!), or dancing to someone's iPod in the ballroom until all hours. If the sun comes up before you've gone to bed, you know you've had a good night at the Green Tortoise. To make it like your home, there's no curfew, huge kitchen, giant common room with a pool table and foosball, piano, stereo, cable TV, bicycle rack and quiet places to fill in the journals of your travels. The rooms are all non-smoking with large lockers under the bed to store your gear safely, comfortable beds with reading lights, and new friends to meet. Our private rooms give you a real home away from home feel with comfy beds and a few with TV and a large selection of movies for free so you can chill out and have quiet time with your travel mate. Why Green Tortoise? More for the money. Free High Speed Internet! Free Linens! Free Under Bed Lockers! Free Breakfast Every Day! Free Parties! Free Dinners 3 Times A Week! Free Sauna! Free Entertainment! Free Day Luggage Storage! Free Maps! Free Tour Information! Free Pub Crawl! (Buy Your Own Drinks!) Free Movies (Private Rooms) Free Spirited!!
