San Francisco guide
It's seldom you hear a bad word about San Francisco. There's good reason for that. One of America's smaller cities, the list of things to do and see in the 47 square miles it covers is endless. This is the city that has given cable cars, frighteningly steep hills, the world’s most famous prison, one of the most beautiful bridges on the planet, and eclectic and trendy neighbourhoods. After a visit you'll be spreading the good word in no time.

We did all the usual sights, visited Fishermans Wharf(not too impressed with that area...very commercialised!), Chinatown(largest in the world!), Haight-Ashbury the 70's throwback neighbourhood, Castro District and lastly Alcatraz. All were well worth the visit especially Alcatraz, we took the night tour and this really captures the eerie atmosphere of the island it was great and so interesting! We treated ourselves to some nice meals out aswell including Tommy Toys Chinese Restaurant in the Embarcadero and the revolving restaurant at the top of the Hyatt Regency Hotel....stop off for a cocktail if nothing else! LA has it celebrities, nightlife, and gang culture, and San Fran has its own notorieties- it's laid back and welcoming, and is said to be the most welcoming city to gay people. In San Fran you feel that you can do what you want to do and at your own pace. It is also a fab city for couples, with plenty of opportunities for romance. Top locations: Union Square, Golden Gate Park, Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39, The Mission. The only thing that may disappoint is the city's climate- similar to British weather, yet with less rain, during my visit at the end of July temperatures reached a mild 15 degrees celsius and cloudy but when the sun came out it was lovely!close

While the restaurants in North Beach are some of the best around, I find The Wharf to be an incredibly fun and exciting place to hang out. There are so many cute shops to visit, good restaurants to experience, great views to see, and plenty of museums to check out. You can see the entire Golden Gate Bridge and the best views of Alcatraz can be viewed from the wharf. You can also check out the famous barking sea lions as they sun themselves at Pier 39.There are definitely parts of Fisherman's Wharf that are a bit touristy, but if you are on vacation, that should probably be expected. I'd recommend walking up towards the Hyde Street Pier where some very cool old ships are docked and then stop by the Ghiradelli Chocolate Company, one of the best chocolate stores in the country. Plus, there are lots of cute souvenir shops, cozy cafes, and small eateries around that area. From there you could walk up through North Beach, past Chinatown (try Yuet Lee for dinner!) and right to Union Square where you could see a show or just hang out and enjoy the people watching.close

There are a lot of areas you can walk (Chinatown, Union sq., Castro, Mission, Haight st, the Golden Gate Park, Fisherman's wharf...), and with a couple of bus or subway rides you can know the major part of the city in a couple of days. I've been three days: two for the city and another one for a ride to Napa Valley, that is very beautifull.
