I loved the city, and I wish I could have spent a lot more time there. It was amazing!

There was one major reason for me to go to Salzburg and that was Herr Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Having been brought up on a staple diet of his music and watching the film Amadeus umpteen times I made sure that on a round Europe trip this was one of my destinations. I didn't let the fact that "The Sound of Music" was filmed there put me off either. As well as the city, the surrounding countryside is stunning. A train ride into the city reveals a panorama of mountains and forests that are straight out of a Grimm storyline. I had a most relaxing couple of days, just wandering around, taking in the sights and sounds. I was lucky enough to be with someone as equally as passionate about Mozart as me so we spent our first day wandering around on a Mozart tour - a nice walk, coffees in the cafés and lunch outdoors and a lesiurely wander around his birthplace and his residence. We were lucky enough to schedule the trip around the time of a classical concert so that was enjoyable. The city has lots more to offer. The city was preparing for the Salzburg music festival at the time so it was all a bustle, but that didn't detract from the less-than-hectic lifestyle. There were lots of good coffee houses, cafés, beer gardens and pubs to spend the evening in. All in all a great holiday. Probably not for more than a few days, but a definite must-stop-in city...

Salzburg is possibly the most beautiful city in the world... especially during the winter months when I visited. It is like a setting from a fairytale.. It has a lot going for it. I love its size, big enough to keep you busy, yet small enough to navigate on foot and maintain the personality that is evident there. Everybody is friendly, everybody welcoming ... and a bit nosey. (in a good way) 2 days is enough in Salzburg for the touristy stuff. (im thinkin mozart and the sound of music, I spent a week there, had enough after 2 days once all this was done ... then I scratched below the surface and wanted even longer. The only negative thing i will say relates to the Salzburg nightlife .... with the problem being the chronic lack of it. If you travel to party do not come here, if you travel to escape and relax, book your flight and book your hotel on boo.

One of the most picturesque places I've been to. Small also so you can walk around and see everything within the city in 2 days. The main shopping street blends in with the architecture so well that you feel lilke you are in another world! It's fantastic. The Austrians are so nice, nothing is too much trouble. Definitely a place for a romantic weekend break. The hills are alive there, thats for sure!!

Really nice to chill out and wander around. Depends on what you are looking for but I spent my four days walking, taking pictures and sitting in coffee shops. For that it was perfect.

Nice little place with a lot of history. Totally walkable and very relaxed. You can hear birds singing here. Things are cheaper than in bigger cities, even though it is an obviously well-known place. The walk up to the Capuchin monastery is so peaceful!

Salzburg has a lovely character side to it and tours are themed around sound of music and mozart. You do need to watch booking the tours that some overlap with the same activities being done on what appear to be different tours. Weather was average for March and some things not available til summer.

We were very lucky with the weather and had a great time. Three nights was just long enough to get done what we wanted but could quite happily have filled a few more days there. Close to its airport and you can see most things on foot. Awesome little city, third time I've been and it won't be the last!

Great base for Innsbruck too. Chekc out Hassenborg and the Helelman fortress. The mozart crap is not worth it unless you are into Mozart.

Schloss Hellbrunn and the trick fountains was awesome. Really worth it to get the Salzburg Card so you can do pretty much everything and save a ton of money. Otherwise, it's expensive. People are very friendly and most everyone speaks English.

Love this place amongst many others. It is good value by Western Eurpean standards and there are some good places to eat, drink and chill out. The weather was good for winter...cold and raining. Or perhaps it is bad since ir should be somewhere in the negative and snowing...depends on your view on global warming. Check out Wilder Mann as LP suggests for good Austrian food and chat to some locals. A good night in itself.

Absolutely loved it. Very beautiful with lots of gardens and parks and the mountains in the background is beautiful. Also not overly busy like some tourist cities, and I found it to be very relaxed and clean. Definitely recommend getting the Salzburg card - saves you a lot of money if you like to sightsee.

Salzburg is the only city on our European tour that we are longing to go back to. It was the most beautiful place on earth. Quiet little town with beauty and history...Not for wild partyers. Great value for your money. Great food, great shops, great history. You have to see it to believe it.

Salzburg was really great, it seems to be a perfect place for a break when you need some place to relax for a few days, to walk around, think... The old town is so cute! And also many cultural stuff to do... I'm definitely coming back !

I loved Salzburg. You can easily walk the entire city, and if you want, buses and clean and inexpensive. Old Salzburg is charming, the fortress is worth a visit, and its jammed pack of culture, both old and pop (Mozart and Sound of Music!). I really enjoyed my two day stay there, and the weather in April just couldn't be any better.

Salzburg is a beautiful city, but others have noticed that too. So don't be surprised, if you don't meet any local people, only turists! The prices are higher than in other parts of Austria, but Salzburg is worth it!

Salzburg is a beautiful city, and its compact, so you can walk around it in a few hours, no need for buses or taxis. Lots to see, not much nightlife after 11 however, couple of expensive clubs I think, and 2 Irish bars, not much else. Definitely would go back, one of my favourite cities now.

we have just left salzburg and it was a very cold city this time of year (mid nov). there wasn\'t much happening either in town and it almost resembled a ghost town. the salt mine tour was excellent and our tour guide (carlos) was very funny. visiting the old town was also very good. salzburg is an excellent place but i might go back there a different time of year next time.

A lovely town situated in the middle of the Alps and on the doorstep of the The Sound Of Music. Also only 100 miles from Munich and 200 miles from Vienna, with a very accessible transport system . Highly recommended.

We were here for less than 24 hours, we did the sound of music tour and it was awesome, you saw all the movie sights as well as some knockout scenery! Its a very touristy town, quite expensive, and not many places to go out. But if you are a Julie andrews fan, then its worth it!

It was too cold for us to get the most out of this trip. Salzburg was a pretty city, but walking around outside was painful after a few minutes. Also, it got dark so early that there was basically nothing to do after 5 except walk around in the dark. Also, four days was a little too long here. we exhausted our resources.

A compact city, Salzburg is perfectly ideal for backpackers to explore. Nearly everything in close relation to sightseeing is within walking distance, and public transportation is quite efficient as well

We were here over New Years and it was really beautiful in the snow. We did the Sound of Music tour, but probably would rather have done it in the spring when it would look like it does in the movie.

I went with my friend Julie and we both LOVED Salzburg, eventhough it rained the WHOLE time! And by rain, I mean the most I have ever seen at one time! It is beautiful none the less and I can\'t wait to one day go back again! I highly recommend the Sound of Music tour, but on a sunny day!

salzburg is a very beautiful city. small enough where you can walk to anything around. only, if you aren\'t into the sound of music or the fortress on top. there isn\'t much to do. it\'s a beautiful place and a great stop for a little down time.
