An absolute dive. Did not even set foot inside - we could not as the place was locked up when we arrived! Only two cars outside, loud music and tobacco smoke coming from inside. No answer to phone calls. Complete mis-representation to call it a Hotel. We checked in elsewhere.... more

This was the single most scary night of our lives! It is straight out of an Alfred Hitchcock film. Location set aside from town. We slept in an empty wing of the building, were obviously the only passing through tennants. It came complete with a late night eerie knock on the door from someone... more

Beautiful old building a few minutes from the centre of Rotorua. Very few people were staying, when I was there so it felt a little errie - but I was there out of season so probably better in the summer.

Very unusual hostel. We paid when we left, instead of paying upon arrival. The atmosphere was strange, but friendly.

Sheets in the room smelled funny and it seemed like they hadn't cleaned anything in ages. Kitchen utileries were very poor and the worst of it all was that there is a bar right under the rooms of the hostel. The music is so loud every day from 10 am till 12 pm that you feel the floors bouncing!... more

A nice, but quiet place. Great location near the thermal springs. A bit of a walk to town. I woke up to a terrific view of the lake. The private rooms are not that expensive and highly recommended.

it is a lovely old hotel to stay in, with really good views, very comfortable, very very nice place and worth every cent. A very quiet and peaceful place to spend a few days, forget about those grand hotels like the Hyatt, i would rather stay in this hotel any day and recommend it to everyone,...

Really liked this place - had a definite atmosphere of home. Hotel has lots of character, compared with the many soul-less backpackers i've stayed in! Staff very helpful and pleasant. And a single room and a bath - luxury beyond belief. Thoroughly recommended.

From the outside this place looks deserted but inside it has a nice bit of old world charm. The place though, and whether it is out of season I don't know, is dead - there is no atmosphere at all.

The hostel has character to it, as is the landlady. She's totally crazy!! BUT in a good way. She's really helpful and tries to look after you as best she can. The hostel would be really quaint again if it had the resources for reconstruction.

A little out of town but has great views over the lake, and has wonderful character. Felt just like staying at a friend's house, with a great kitchen and even a claw-foot bath to soak in after a hard day. A great place to stay.
