kind of touristy (not at bad as Taupo), didn't eat in any restaurants, but the zorbing, luging, car racing stuff was fun. Loved seeing all the hot springs steam puffing from all over the loca area - it was surreal! Absolutely beautiful area, but preferred the unpopulated coastal town better...more kind of touristy (not at bad as Taupo), didn't eat in any restaurants, but the zorbing, luging, car racing stuff was fun. Really strange place to be. Just be aware that this town is smelly and some people dont really like it. There s lots to do, but the bus around only runs once an hour and not at 1pm. Do not miss a flight and definitly go to Wai-O-Tapu between Taupo and Rotorua. That will be one of the strangest...more Really strange place to be. Rotorua has been my favourite part of New Zealand so far. Plenty of sightseeing and activities to do. Lyons Lakestay 95%
Beautiful Location near Blue lake, close enough to drive into town, but away enough to not smell town. Extremely helpful staff :)

1Great place if you're looking to get out of Rotorua town. Beautiful lakeside location, good for walks etc. Good, clean rooms and communal kitchen, friendly staff. If you're looking for a party hostel, this isn't for you, but if you want a bit of peace and quiet then it's perfect.

Cactus Jacks Backpackers 81%
Loved this place!!! Right in the middle of town and only five minutes walk from nightlife, i-site, bus terminals and the supermarket. The 'wild-west' theme gives the place lots of character and isn't too tacky. Only complaint is that they don't check their Hostelworld bookings and my booking (and...

2A great option for Rotorua, with very helpful owners, a central location, clean and well designed rooms (though some rooms are small). We are a family of four traveling RTW and were very please with our stay.

The Atlas is a lovely restaurant. The ambience, staff, food and prices tick all my boxes. The food is very much Thai and there are some great deals to be had most nights. I was there on a Thursday night and I had a beautiful Thai buffet. Ideal if you don’t know what you want but want to sample everything.I returned on Saturday night, hoping for the same but...

Travelling to New Zealand? The best way to get around NZ is by long-distance bus. There are only about 4 railway routes in NZ so travelling by rail is not an option. Hiring a car or campervan is a popular option but expensive, and not necessary - there are frequent bus services to all destinations and all the accommodation and activity providers will come and...

Agrodome Farming Experience60%
The weather was brutal when we arrived but we braved the teeming rain and eye-watering winds to take the organic farm tour. It’s probably much more fun for the under-12’s but if you fancy a peek into the secret world of the kiwi grove, this is definitely for you. They make kiwi wine, you know.
