When you go to Alfredo's it looks pretty much like your standard Roman restaurant, one step up from a humbler trattoria, except for the pictures on the wall of filmstars and royalty. Everyone famous from the last century has been through its doors more or less, and has had their picture taken to prove it. It is one of two places in Rome that claims to have invented "fettuccine Alfredo" a wonderful conconction of simple fettuccine, butter and pecorino romano cheese. At this particular venue, if a whole family have it as their starter, the waiters make a big deal of the dish – they wheel it to the table unmixed, the fettucine smothered in a heap of melting butter and a mound of cheese and they make a song and dance of mixing it for you, then serve it out individually picking on one "special" person to have the very first portion. It might sound terribly theatrical and I suppose it is, but the theatrics aside (which might appeal to the kids) the food is actually very good here. This restaurant is right in the city center not far from Piazza Navona in a lovely part of town.close
