Good and clean hotel, but the staff is a bit too more insistent as far as tips or "service charges" are concerned.

The staff is helpful, the bellboys and cleaning staff were great, but the front desk will try to screw you coming and going. They would not accept our rate from hostel world booking unless we had it printed up. They had our reservation ready and after I went to a near by internet cafe to print the rate, they had all the correct figures ready. But they would not accept the deposit I made on hostelworld. They said it went to the site for their services. bs. On the way out, they added an additonal 10% to our bill and said it was hotel tax, and they needed it paid in cash. We argueed a bit, then went to an atm and discussed it. We went back, and argued somemore with the front desk, then he finally said "ok, if you don't want to pay, you don't have to, just sign the reciept." So we did and left. We were going to tip on the way out, but not after that experience, if they even explained it to us as a suggested tip, that would have been one thing, instead they lied and called it hotel tax and thought we would just pay it. This place is an ideal low cost option, the best in Rio, but be ready to argue over billing here.close

Perfect location. a deposit of US$150 was required for the use of the safe in the room whihch I considered unreasonable. Also it was not clear on the booking form that a service charge of 10% plus vat ? (issu?) of 5% would be added. I had understood the prices on hostelworld to be fixed and all inclusive

Good value hotel (rather than hostel) with professional staff. Ideal location for both ipanema and copacabana. The seafood restaurant is well thought of by rio natives! Internet available and nice breakfasts
