The hostel itself is really lovely, very central and clean and the staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. However, the dorms are very expensive (even for Rio) and the dorm we stayed in was too crowded for the amount we paid (6 in a very small room that you had to walk through another...

Nice little place, staff are extremly helpful, and its in an ideal location close to Ipanema beach. Downside is that rooms are way too cramped. you can hardly move. Hot showers thou and free breakfast.

But the hostel is overpriced - especially for the pretty titchy double rooms (ours had a leaky ceiling). The layout is odd, as you may have to walk through the bar or breakfast area to have a shower. Great location, really just one block from Ipanema beach. Staff were so helpful, and the TV room is brilliant. Good breakfast too and communal tables so you meet and chat with people.

Stayed in a six bed dorm which was nice but there was an adjoining six bed dorm. So people had to pass through our room into theirs, really a 12 room dorm.

A great hostel, location, clean, great rooms, staff, all spot on, but if you want a crazy party hostel, this isnt for you, it has a nice chilled bar where you can be social but at 10 its time to hit the town which is perfect. Would definately stay here again.

The best thing about this Hostel is the location: one block from the best spot on Ipanema Beach, halfway between Posto 9 and Posto 10.

Really nice and clean hostel with the best location you can get in Rio! Dorms weren't as fancy as I expected, but I still enjoyed my stay a lot. And from what I heard about the other hostels in the neihgbourhood: this is the place to stay at.

The Mango Tree is in a very good location just one block back from the beach. Rooms and bathrooms are kept clean. There is a kitchen but guests are not allowed use it which can make quite an expensive stay to always have to eat out. Very quiet at night, cannot sit out the back after 10pm

Had some great days at the Mango Tree: The size of the hostel is perfect, the building cosy, very well located and the staff friendly and helpful. Great atmosphere to hang out at night before going out and at the same time possible to get a good night's sleep. Recommend it.
