Do not expect a 4 bed dorm if you book one. I'm not sure they exist at this hostel. I, and others who'd booked 4-bed rooms online, were put in a large 12 bed dorm with 8 security lockers (Makes sense!), and despite paying more than others (The rate if you walk in off the street is R30 - you pay extra for the privelege of internet booking.....as if the $2 hostels.com fee isn't enough!) got no air con. When I enquired as to why this was I was (very rudely) told that if I didn't like it I could go somewhere else, since there were 100 other people who wanted a bed! Welcome to Rio Backpacker's! This seems to be the general arrogant attitude of Hostels in Rio. Money comes first (Just look at Carnival prices! What Backpacker can afford those!) and the guest comes second. Hot water is a luxury not afforded by this hostel either. I stayed one night but was told there'd been no hot water for a week. Stay here if you like to be talked to like you're a piece of dirt.close
