The only downside was that they rooms got pretty crowded. 3 story tall bunk beds can be intense when you are coming home wasted. Overall, it was great!!close

Nice little place, has a small bar and the staff are friendly. Have to pay for the internet, but hey most places in Rio seem to do that. Was a little quiet at times but could just be the people their at the time. Would recommend.

Not a bad hostel, albeit overpriced. The breakfast is good and the location is only a couple of blocks from the beach. The main downside is the cramped rooms and the lack of cleanliness.

Great location not far from the beach. Little bar out the back that makes great cheap Caperinhas. A very social hostel.

It may initially appear more pricey than some other hostels, but it is definitely worth, especially since an all-you-can-eat breakfast is included! The upstairs shower wasn't working for my entire stay so had to use the showers by the pool which was slightly annoying. Didn't find the staff particularly friendly and would say that the hostel is a bit over-rated compared to the raving reviews I had read about it. Had a great time in Rio though!

Has potential to be a great hostel but is overated and over priced. The location is great, right by the beach and in a safe area but its a shame that the bar closes so early and the showers and water keep breaking. A completely over priced hostel!!

The location of the hostel can´t be beaten, it´s really close to the best beach and really safe too. The owners are clearly treating this place as one big "cash cow" - profiting at every turn and investing nothing into the place. They charge for everything in the hostel - use of towels, change of bed sheets. You can even sleep in a hammock outside or in the "TV Room" for 20BRL per night. Bodies lie everywhere. I doubt the bathroom is ever cleaned while the kitchen is among the worst I have seen. The double room we booked was tiny, no wardrobe or shelf for hanging clothes and a woeful air con system. And for 140BRL per night, the owners are clearly the big winners. To be fair, the pool and bar area is nice and the guests may make the place bearable, but its clear you are simply paying for the Ipanema address. We decided to get a better deal in a 3 star hotel in Copacabana after one night at the Beach House. Same price, far better. It turned out to be a wise decision.close

This hostel did not start well for us, had to remove the sheets from the previous guests, bathrooms were constantly flooded and blocked, no toilet paper, you can definately do better for your money, also charged a bomb for internet use and towel hire

One of the best hostels I have stayed in on my 6 month travels. Met great people, staff are friendly and full of information. Location is 3 streets from the best beach in Rio!! Good Breakfast.... if you come to Rio make this your first point of call.

i am relatively new to hostel living, but so far this has been the best. everyone on staff was friendly and fun, the location is 3 blocks from a BEAUTIFUL beach, and ipanema is the safest part of rio.

Good stay, place got booked up pretty quick tho so make sure you reserve enough nights for your stay rather than just booking a couple of days and hoping to wing it from there

Since travelling on through South America, we have met lots of people saying exactly the same about this place. When anyone mentions Ipanema Beach house, the words "Bed Bugs" soon follow. When we complained to staff about the problem, we were given clean sheets - which obviously didn´t solve the problem. Sort this out and get the staff to care a bit more, and this would be a great hostel.close

Nice hostel but doesnt have many locker options (only small high-school size) and didnt have any when I went so I had to leave all my valuables unlocked, which worried me. But the location is UNBEATABLE. In the very heart of Ipanema.

Really nice hostel with a really nice setup. It has a proper bar in the lobby which is quite nice to meet people if travelling alone. Its a little bit further away from the center of Ipanema, but no complaints

Ipanema Beach House has potential to be a great backpackers hostel. However, for the price that you pay the quality does not quite match up. The staff could also be more helpful. If this is your first trip to Rio this is prob not the place for you!

its not the best place buts its alright, the bar closes at 10 . the night staff dosent understand english . We arived late at night had to ask around what time is breckfast ,were was the toilets ect. book a 6 bed dorm room but was moevd to a 9 bedroom dorm. buckbeds go as high as 3 and no...

Although this hostel might be a bit more expensive than others it is well worth staying here. Really cool hostel and everyone is really friendly, with great atmosphere. Go to the Samba Rehersal/party on a wednesday or saturday the best night out i had in 5 months in south america........

Stay here if you come to Rio! It's the best hostel in the city, and it's super well located in Ipanema. Concerned about safety? You don't have to be here... Excellent for meeting other travellers.
