I can not talk highly enough about this hostel. The staff are sensational, always trying to help with whatever you need. So close to the beach. Was only going to stay 3 days but ended up staying 10 days. Only disappointment was the cleanliness of the bathrooms. Will definitely come back and stay...

The location is really perfect close to the Copacabana beach, metro, bars, restaurants and 15 minutes walking to the Ipanema beach. In the hostel you can book an organised bus trip to the amazing football games in the Maracana stadion. The friendly staff takes care for a very family atmosphere and the most of them speaks very good English and can advise you very well about the interesting places in Rio. In the hostel there is also a small courtyard for the bbq and in the sleeping room there was air conditioning and lockers for your money and papers. I can recommend young and old to stay in this Hostelclose

There's a great kitchen, a nice common area including a courtyard (which makes it very easy to meet people) and free fast internet. The staff (a.ka. Bernardo) is the most knowledgable and helpful I have ever encountered at a hostel. All of Bernardo's recommendations were excellent and he was always eager to give advice. He's also an excellent griller (they have a bbq every Sunday). If you're going to Rio I strongly recommend staying at the Copacabana Wave Hostel.close

There were 4 of us travelling together and we got a private room with 4 beds. The place did not have any air conditioning and it was unbearably hot there to the point where we could not sleep and went to a hostel down the street which had A/C. Also there are only 2 bathrooms in the hostel, one for males and one for females. When we were there, there were mostly males staying there, and you could see how nasty it could become when you have a bunch of guys sharing 1 sink, 2 toilets and 2 showers. However, I have to say that the hostel staff was really helpful to us and very nice! Another thing was that on our first night there, there seemed to be a lot of weird older people staying there, so I think we were just there on a bad week. If you are going to Rio in Febuary, it can be very humid and I would definately stay at a place with Air conditioning.close

Luckily, when some more employees arrived later in the day, our online reservations were honored and we had a place to stay, and my friend and I have even stayed on for several days more than intended. The staff is very friendly, and often spends time with the travellers going sightseeing, to the beach, etc. It´s not always the quietest place, and the bathrooms leave something to be desired, but it seems to attract a great collection of people, the BBQ is great and the beach is very close.close
