located at the beach of botafogo you can get everywhere really easy. the staff is the best and will help you with anything! in a quiet family atmosphere you can relax perfectly from rios nightlife! I stayed there over one week and I will come back!!!thats for sure :-)

I stayed more than three weeks in this hostel, and i have to say honnestly that it have such a nice experience! The staff is really nice and helpfull, the neighborhood (Botafogo) is safe, fun and really well desserved by every bus line or Rio, and the breakfast is amazing! The best Hostel in Rio that I know. Really nice and friendly staff make you feel home. The staff always has good information about the city. The location of the Hostel is just perfect.

The rooms were not cleaned for a whole week and the bathrooms only once in this time. It was pretty unclean. The area was not great in terms of things happening but well located to easily reach all the other places of attraction.

Non-peak season is a great time to visit Rio de Janeiro. I mentioned it was my birthday and the staff treated me like royalty. Bunks are three-high and pillows are a bit old, but it´s a great location, well-priced and includes a kitchen. Would recommend it.close

Alpha is in Botafogo which is not a bad area with good transport but is still dodgy and the hostel was really really dirty with no atmosphere and I wouldn´t stay again. Staff were good though but you had to pay for internet and brekkie was good but the hygiene was always a turn off.

It is good if you want to relax and chill out, but not a party hostel. It is very clean and safe and staff are very kind and helpful. Although when i paid i had to pay the full amount even though i told her i had paid 10 percent through hostelworld, she told me that goes to hostelworld. But no...

This is a great, no frills hotel located on one of the major streets. The female staff member was extremely helpful and spoke a decent amount of English. The rooms were large and quite affordable.

The Alpha was nice and very quiet, it was good to stay at after a long flight to rio, but not much of a party place and nothing much around it either. To go anywhere it was a long walk or bus ride. Very helpfull staff.

alpha hostel is really good if you are first time travellers and need to settle in somewhere or if you just want a couple of chilled out days to get used to the city before going to a party hostel! alpha is a bit more chilled but is in the middle of copacabana and lapa and is easy to get... more alpha hostel is really good if you are first time travellers and need to settle in somewhere or if you just want a couple of chilled out days to get used to the city before going to a party hostel! alpha is a bit more chilled but is in the middle of copacabana and lapa and is easy to get everywhere from. it also has great views of the christ on one side and sugar loaf on the other! its cleaned everyday and all the staff are so helpful and friendly. Santiago will always be there to open the door for you after a night out, simoneta will probably take you on the night out and leo will make some amazing popcorn for your hangover the following afternoon!!! loved itclose

Location is great but cleanliness is an issue. There can be a lot of of people in a hostel but that is not an excuse to have a dirty bathroom the whole day and other areas too. Staff was not knowleadgeable of the area either.I would not recommend this hostel to anyone.

The hostel is cheap and clean, but the hostel should provide it´s clients with a lot more tourist information on the city. For example maps of the city would be handy.

The staff were extremely helpful. The dorms and communal areas were a bit cramped. The hostel is just round the corner from the metro. Botafogo beach isnt great but the area is quite good. Staff menber very friendly.First day my friend Leo and collegues offer me a funny trip next to Jardim Botanic, (free way and meals too)).He spent few hours with a funny Hostel group.Oubviusly in next trip to Brazil choise Alpha Hostel in Salvador de Bahia.

The staff where very helpful, but we did have a few problems when booking up, we wher givern about 4 different prices for room then we arranged to be picked by the hostel from the airport but they didnt show up! we turned up just before xmas and there seemed to be no celebrations there at all. I wouldnt say it was a party hostel. I you want quiet time and a safe plkace its the place to go - but not for a party!!! we left after 2 hours!

overall great value for money. nothing fancy but nice character, very clean adn secure. Staff are friendly and ready to help. Well-positioned in a safe area to see all sites. If one is looking to be walking distance to the beach/ looking for a raucous party, this is not the place to stay.

This place is fantastic, the staff are lovely and very helpful. The location in Botafogo is brilliant, dont be put off that it is not not mentioned in the ubiquitous 'Lonely Planet' as it is very central and completely safe. Have a great time and Rio, say Hello to Helena from me!!

We´re 2 guys from Denmark who started our 3 month-trip at the Alpha Hostel. I could´nt picture a better place to start off. The Staff is very helpfull, the rooms are nice, fiendly people everywhere, and the location is perfect. This was the best hostel I stayed in on my entire 7 week travel. The owner went out of her way to make everyone feel happy and comfortable. She is so friendly and even after just speaking with her once she remembers your name for the entire stay!!!! I stayed for carnival when things were busy but we were all served a dinner our first night for carnival kick off with prizes and everything, it was wonderful. I highly recommend this wonderful hostel because the peoplle are amazing and it was sooo....spotless and in a great naiborhood as well!!!!! STAY AT ALPHA!!!!close
