Just to see the sunrise, one has to be here (because Cristo is closed so early in the morning, i tried :) There are no restaurants nearby, but in 10 minutes walking distance u can find good ones in Santa Teresa. And good food is served at the pousada. The roof terrace is also top. There are some dogs, so who doesnt like dogs... but i liked them, thez were friendly. So was everyone i met! Will come back!close

dont be put off by the fact this hostel os in a favela. it was great to mix with the locals and they are all very friendly. you feel less threatened around the hostel than you do in the city. the hostel was above average!

In a nutshell, do not stay here. We awoke to the family screaming at each along to the sounds of gangster rap. It is as though they are not actually running a hostel anymore. We awoke to the family screaming at each along to the sounds of gangster rap. It is as though they are not actually running a hostel anymore. There are dogs growling at you from the upper floor as you leave. Frankly, we were too scared to go up for breakfast - however, wouldnt have eaten anyway, as there are flies everywhere. The favela itself is fairly (??) safe, but it is the run from the road in to the favela each night which is the very unsafe part about it, especially in the early hours of the morning after being out.close

I´ve never had the feeling of being in the countryside while staying at a hostel in a major city. The nights floated by with the wonderful contradiction of the pounding city below and the buzz of nature all around. A bit of a hike but truly a unique experience. Great staff. Unbelievable...

We were very disappointed about this pousada. There was a guy who pretended being very friendly, but the rest of the staff wasn´t friendly at all and most of the time stoned/drunk. This pousada itself was very loud and not as clean as expected from the pictures we saw. It´s just 2 years old...

Steep climb to hostel from lower favela entrance. Got lost first two nights finding it as favela has lots of winding steps, poor lighting. Felt securer within favela than outside it. Good access to metro and St. Theresa trams. Good access to the pubs in Theresa too. Hostel owner has no English but nice. Excellent brreakfast with fruit, rolls etc. I was the only one staying in the dorm over the five days. so if looking for fun, companions - not the place. Good lockers and ensuite shower. Place has two dogs- nice but kept pissing in the corridor outside room. Best views of Rio of any hostel or hotel. Fabulous. As menrtioned, felt very secure in area and drank within Favela most evenings. Easy access to cool pubs of Theresa if needed. Not much to do within hostel and not a place (too far) to return to during the day on a whim.close

The only people who know about it found it on the Internet or work there. It is a one of a kind experience for Rio because you are staying in Favela. (You should know what that means before you go to Rio). To us it seemed very quiet and safe, but if you tell any relatively middle class Brazilan what you are doing (or any taxi driver for that matter), they almost all think you have lost it. Actually when we described the specific area to a Brazilain family we knew, they thought it was ok. You have to walk into the Favela to get there up or down hill. There is no way to have a bus or taxi get what is usually thought of as near it. NOT handicapped accessible for anyone with mobility issues.. The view is unbelievable, as the website indicates. The high check mark for location is the total uniqueness of it. It is not a place to easily get back for dinner etc. We had no problems at all and met people from all over the world. Not for the faint hearted but we were very happy we did it. They hired staff member described well how to get in and out etc. and was generally very informative. The people we encountered were all friendly in the Favela and the hostel. You can eat 3 meals there but we just took breakfast cause we were out till late. There are no organized activities. If you are interested in seeing how the other half lives, while staying a really sweet place, this is it. The website description was accurate.close

It is in one of the poorest parts of the city, far from every tourist attraction. 2. When I finally got there I received the worst behaviour from any hostel; I told them that the room is not clean and that the toilet is occluded (there was a big stool bulk there). I was surprised to get the answer:¨if yot don´t like it - bye bye - go to another hotel¨. They repeated this statement several times in an insulting tone. Of course I took their advice -and went to another hostel (which I also booked in advance through your site for later days). The other hostel is far from being perfect, but the staff is very professional and helpful. My request from you is to remove Pousada Favelinha from your site. I´ve booked several times through your site. This one is just far from being in the standards of all the others I´ve been in.close

The best on my whole trip through Brazil! In fact, I chilled a lot on that balcony with the marvellous view! The staff is nice, food (dinner) is cheap and superb! Not easy to find, but once you´re there you will not want to leave ;)

I have never stayed in such a beautiful place before. The sundawns are better than the pix on the website ;) Nice rooms, quiet, central, friendly staff, lots of opportunity to make friends with locals. And the view is just SPECTACULAR! Highly recommended.
