IT IS NOT IN RIO! Do not be fooled. It is PAST Barra da Tijuca - look it up on a map. You need a car to get around. Mosquitos everywhere. Toilet that exploded. Terrible beds. Extra stoned host. Nice TV, though.

Its close to the best beaches of Rio de Janeiro and just about 20min from the famous beaches like Ipanema. Its a good place with a nice family atmosphere. I met some amazing people at there. I also had free internet (wi-fi), a free pc to share with others, free cable TV, and much more.. They have bad bugs and we got bitten BAD!!! Can not reccomend this hostel to anyone after our experiance.

Really loved our time in Rio. Hostel Celacanto was fantastic. The people running the hostel & staff were excellent & great to spend time with. Also thankyou hostelworld for offering this hostel to us.

The hostel is far away from Rio centre. You can take regular busses, they take about 1h to Copacabana. The nearby beach (1km) is beautiful and an ideal spot for surfing.

A very far away location, 1-1.5 hrs ride. anyway you cant beat its security.

This hostel is not terrible, but it is not very clean. There seem to be some bugs in the beds, and sometimes the water didn't work. It is in Recreio, which is about an hour by bus from most major attractions in Rio. The people are very nice, though, and breakfast is included.
