Very nice hostel. The staff is excellent, not just did they show us around but they also brought us to a fotboll game at maracana! We really recommend this to all backpackers out there!

I found staying in the Babilonia favela (behind Leme) to be a very interesting experience. The people there are very friendly. Matthias and Luiz were great hosts. I like forward to see the two of you next year.

We intended to stay 3 nights and ended up staying 6 - such a chilled out place and although the hill can be a bit of a pain its worth it for such a cool location and good price.

Mould smell in room, mattresses very dirty, with holes & cobwebs on ceiling. Cleanliness in communal bathroom could also be improved. Thanks for the drink John - we'll make sure to tell the grand kids!close

This place was great. It was my first experience in a hostel and it was a good one. Mathais, Tom, and John were excellent hosts. I was safe the entire trip, and you can't beat the price. Very relaxed and welcoming. The hill was steep, but that's a small cost. It'll give you a workout anyway.

Ask him to take you on a walk up through the favela to awesome views over the city. This is a very personal Rio experience, it is one of the best hostels we have visited. Try it - you will love it!!!!close

Austrian beachie owner knows portuguese, and so does his grumpy old gringo sidekick John! Spanish is not quite their cup of tea. Note that you need to be reasonably fit to climb the hill, which is steep. Local favela population is very nice, portuguese speaking mulato. If you have had your heart broken in spanish or portuguese once or twice, you might just be in for some more. Highly recommended, unless you're too lazy for the hill, racist or a biblemonger!close

Super friendly, the owner was super helpful, always willing to answer questions. his friend that lives there kept everyone entertained well with card games. although it is on the edge of a favela, we always felt very safe and welcome. there is a bar nearby where guests can go drinking, and it is a 5-10 minute walk from copacabana and a metro station. even closer, 5 mins max is the beach. wicked location, close but no city noise. great rooftop deck with wicked view. the dorm is also huge, biggest we´ve seen... lots of space. clean aswell, fans everywhere. we were there for carnaval, and we were amazed that the prices had been kept at the same low rate, i believe it was the only one in rio, which clearly shows that the owner is there for the guests, not to rob you. definatly stop by if you go to rio!close

I had originally planned on staying only three or four days there but enjoyed it so much I stayed 8. Though close to copacabana it was a little difficult to find the address the first time up the hill but I quickly found myself feeling quite at home. The staff/ locals around the hostel are great and the business is respected in the comunity. It seemed especially popular with travellers who were staying longer stays and with two capoeira academies just down the street (angola and regional) its a good place for people to stay who are travelling for capoeira. I'd highly recommend Chill Hostel for anyone wanting a truly chill hostel to stay in while in Rio! Favorite things about Chill Hostel: people, patio, trees, capoeira, location, cheap acai across the street, monkeys from the bedroom view, close to the beach,in the morning the birds are louder than the traffic far down the hill, close
