Definitely go there to Fraser Island as it is much closer than Hervey Bay, the people are real friendly here, and there are plenty to do apart from Fraser, there are sea kayaking with dolphins, walk in the National Park, handgliding or paragliding, surfing, and the beach is really nice!!!! Pippies Beachhouse Rainbow Beach 79%
I have stayed at many hostels and I believe that Pippes Rainbow beach is the worst one ever! The location was good but the carelessness and hostile approach of the Reception staff is what made it a terrible hostel. The food wasn't very good either although I did enjoy the free BBQ.

– posted on Oct 2008 1Very good hostel, though I think some of the staff are a bit stressed and there are rules and fines for everything. Rooms, kitchen and bathroom very clean, maybe the cleanest I have seen so far in Australia.

– posted on Nov 2008 1frasers was a nice hostel with lots of character, most people who stayed there were there for one night before heading to fraser island. the rooms were ok, the atmosphere was good and there was something going on in the bar every night.

i loved dongo s!! met the best people EVER and had the best fraser island self-drive trip EVER!! but - the kitchen is very small, and u need to rent the plates & cutley.

Fraser Island is one of the many highlights of Australia's east coast! You can book trips from rainbow beach and go on a 3 day camping trip on this largest sand Island in the world. There are over 100 freshwater lakes on this Island which are fantastic for cooling down. The camping is a great experience just watch out for the dingos!!
