I was very pleasantly surprised by this lovely town, with its excellent marina, lovely promenades, interesting fortress. The pretty center is full of excellent good-value restaurants, interesting shops. There are fabulous beaches, little rocky coves, cliffs - you name it. Ideal as a place to chill out in for a few days after a driving holiday through the rest of Portugal, for example.close

From a cultural POV there's not much to see but there's great walks along the beach and cliffs; we walked from Lagos to Burgeau (we went by the beach from Porto de Mos to Luz but freaked out when the tide was coming in and the passage was getting blocked by the waves coming in but we got helped by a fisherman to pass! so I would advise people to go by the cliffs or it can get really dangerous!) and from the Cabo Sao Vicente to Sagres by the cliffs and took the bus back in both occasions, the views are fabulous from the cliffs but the place is deserted so always be extra careful as you will be by yourself. The buses are rare (especially on weekends) and don't go everywhere so always have a reliable timetable and map (and watch) or you'll get stuck in the middle of nowhere! Great place to get some fresh air.close

Because we were having too much fun outside, we didn't get a chance to meet Carlos except for the time we woke him up to turn in the keys. However, we did get to meet Arthur who was very helpful and knowledegable and Kat who was a real sweetie and gave an excellent massage. We had a 2 person room and it was super clean. The bathroom and kitchen were very clean as well and lastly, the area felt safe. Carlos House has really raised the bar on level of quality that accomodations should have.close

Lots of hostels and a few great beaches. It is relativly cheap for food and if you pre party you dont spend a lot of money going out at night. The bars are generally small and you have to move from one to the other every few hours but it is cool. the people in town are awsome and almost all speak english. So if you want culture avoid lagos and the algarve in general. If you want to meet people go to the beach and drink go to lagos and avoid the rest of the algarve. In my opinion as a young traveler lagos is the only place to be in the algarve the rest is touristy, so is lagos, but touristy for families and such.close

Quinta dos Caracois 100%
We had such a wonderful time here! It was only a short bus trip to Lagos city centre and Praia da Luz. The accommodation itself was clean, spacious with lovely views. Many hours were also spent relaxing poolside. We will definantely return. It was great value for money.

3Nice people. The rooms are really comfortable and perfectly cleaned every day. We had a fridge and a terrasse, out to the street, which is not noisy. A 5 minute walk to the most stunning beach in the area (praia D.Ana)!10 min walk from Lagos city center (with the pubs and marina). Had a great stay!

It has been a while since I've been back to Lagos, so I hope this place is still here.. and run by the same lovely couple: Marion and Dave. It was a bit of a surprise going there for the first time. We booked as recommended, arrived at the door and rang the bell and next minute we were being smothered in hugs and kisses by Marion as if we were long lost...

This is a lovely traditional Portuguese restaurant. The food is very good, especially the traditional "cataplanas" (various kinds of fish soup in a big covered copper pot that looks a bit like a wok).

This was fun-filled and fascinating. I enjoyed a wonderful day watching dolphins, seals, sharks, turtles, exotic birds, seabirds, crocodiles and tropical fish. Zoomarine is ideally based in tranquil settings beisde lakes and gardens. I really enjoyed this place. Young and old will do too.

Luisol Bar100%
This is a little gay-run bar in a quite hard to find part of town, but very much worth the effort. The place is cosy and in the off season attracts many local expatriates from several European countries, living or retired in Lagos. The big draw is Luis and Hans, the owners. Luis in particular is a larger than life character with loads of tales about his time...
