Good hotel, perfect for visitng the old center, correct team but for touristic info prepare you yourself. Petit dejeuner is super, the room in which it is presented is beautifull but cold, If want to take a hot shower try before 8 o'clock in the morning, later is less warm. Overall opinion,...

Excellent hotel for 2 star. Hard to find fault. Nice room, decor, balcony, great breakfast. I could nitpick and say there wasn't much shower pressure but it was fine. I'd recommend it.

I chose Grande at 45 Euro instead of somewhere for about 20 Euro to be sure of comfort and rest on arriving in Oporto. 2. I now know its actually really over priced. nb. I have been everywhere this trip from NZ and am pretty ´cool´about where I stay as long as clean & comfortable I am pretty happy unless feel ripped off or treated horribly. eg. fab YHA in Dubai for 95 Dhms sharing to luxurious overated Palazzo Versace in Gold Coast ,Oz for about 500$Aus a night. Arrival at Grande was excellent, very helpful night reception man, pleasantly exceeding expectations. But there were soon NOISE issues as walls really THIN!!! eg could here neighbouring room TV blaring as though deaf and their savage conversation to one another could be heard clearly as they kind of barked in stacatto. I was really tired as had driven from Pau, France at massive speed to make the flight from Girona to Oporton but was still kept awake by this and loud traipsing arrivals up stairs as walls so thin. After hostel intervention failed to get next door room more ´shared space considerate´I had to get up myself knock on their door desperately and tell them I could heãr everything and was REALLY really tired. With that they subdued themselves and with this and emergency earplugs I got some sleep!! I was prepared to stay 3 days at Grande but left next day next day as there were builders drilling and hammering right above me!! Was clearly not meant to be for me!!! I needed rest&energy for sightseeing and writing so packed up and went to find somewhere else. Made a polite complaint but reception were not even slightly interested or apologetic and spoke of the hotels needs!! not the guests!!! ~tourist fatigued? Shame as hotel had a shabby charm and lovely touches. But it´s better(more honest)practice to tell customers there are now builders on site and say is it ok or can we rebook you somewhere quiet etc. as for some (eg deaf people or ravers) the noise wouldn´t matter. nb. re. price of 45 Euro: Found a lovely residencial room for 25 Euro literally round cornerclose

We mentioned it three times and asked for it to be fixed. We were told at one point that the technician had been to see it "try it now..." but I don't think anything had been done. Just stalling tactics. As for the cold room (we had the heater on full, but it wasn't effective). I noticed everywhere in Portugal inside was cold (cafes, galleries, restaurants), so that's probably just a Portugal thing, not anything wrong with this particular place.close

After booking a double bed for three nights we were made to stay in a twin (two singles) for two of those nights. This room also lacked the balcony, view and satellite tv they boast on their website and in their pamphlets. This is on top of the fact that their bar is not open for service and their games room is a room with a table (...that you can play cards on!) On the third night we finally got our double bed, I should point out after having to nag them several times, but the tv was broken completely. When pointing these problems out to the manager we got an amateur attitude and told perhaps we should not be watching tv if we came all the way to Portugal. The hotel itself is ok, and the breakfast is superb, but the staff, and the manager, were very unprofessional. We did not expend wonders from a two star hotel, just simply what we had paid for and were lead to believe from their advertising!close

The least i could expect from the staff was some understanding. The night when i was vomiting, I went to the receptionist to ask for some medication. Little help was rendered but wen I asked to be allowed to stay in the room in the afternoon instead of checking out at 12noon,the receptionist said okie. The next day, while i was recuperating in the room, I was rudely chased out by another receptionist even though I told her my condition and the agreement I had the night before. Good, but the staff were a bit snotty (come on guys this isn't the Ritz). But the whole old style Hotel look was really fun and the red carpet and the stairwells were good. Worth a stay - especially if the staff learnt how to smile.

This hotel was full of character. It was clean and the breakfast was excellent. The staff were friendly, polite and very helpful. However, guests need to be warned about the weak railings around the empty stairwell - I think there is a real risk of someone falling from one of the high levels.
