most of the modern city is gray and drab but the old town is very quaint with lots of color and character. its been a nice stay but wouldnt need to stay any longer than 2 days. |

Warsaw is quite a nice place. There is enough there to keep you occupied for a couple of days, particularly if you are interested in any of the more recent history of Poland. Poland is still not an in place to go which means it is still really cheap. If you dont speak Polish I´d probably recommend taking a phrase book, as english isn´t widely spoken. Overall if you only have a couple of days to allocate to Poland, I´d probably go to Krakow over here though. |

Some books compare this to Berlin. While it's true that there are a lot of tall skyscrapers with lots of glass, that does not mean it is Berlin. The city was completely destroyed by the Nazis and then poorly rebuilt by the Soviets. It shows. Maybe a few more years of modernizing will help, but it's still got a ways to go before it's a city one must visit while in Europe. |

In recent years, Warsaw has come to life. Like a phoenix rising from the fires of WWII destruction and communist oppression, the city these days is quite lively and exciting. The café scene around the Old Town is a mini version of the café life in other European capitals. Trendy new restaurants, bars, cafés and clubs are sprouting up in all directions, making Warsaw a fantastic place to visit. With several spectacular museums (some of which are free at some point during the week) and a long history of oppression and rebellion (think: Russia in the 19th century, Germany during the War, Communism in the mid-twentieth century), there is more culture and history to be had in Warsaw than you can shake a stick at (or possibly do justice to during a short stay). The people are friendly, the city is welcoming and yet the tourists are just beginning to put Warsaw on their map of destinations. Warsaw has all the charm, history and culture of a major European capital without the annoying intrusion of bawdy American tourists. |

A grim city but with interesting history and some cool palaces. |

Why dont they have fuel for the airplanes here??? Its a mystery. Also a mystery: where is our luggage really these days??? Does LOT airlines really own the whole city? And how come they are building a new old classic city wall in Warsaw? Is every native here as nice as the ones we have met? Its all a mystery. |

City for spending only one day, people is very kind though, like in everyplace in Poland. It is interesting watching people and its traditions but everything is closed for the celebration! |

Warsaw could be missed in Poland. The city hasn't had the best life. It was basically destroyed in the war so most of it is not original and does not have the character of Krakow as it has only been the capital for a short time. The museam of the Warsaw Uprising and the royal park are the highlights. The old town is not as good as Krakows. |

If you have to go to one Polish city, make it Krakow - there are more things to do. |

Fajnie jest tu w Wawie! |

Wide range good clubs, only minus that prices are quit high for ex. compared to Kraków and Wroclaw. But it´s capital... |
|

 |
it is a city full of constrasts, if you stay near the stare miasto you would never want to leave. |

Like most of Eastern Europe, Warsaw is cheaper than its western counterparts. For under USD 10 per person we had a really good meal in a fancy restaurant. Entrance fees to museums aren't that expensive either. |

its still got all the culture that a capital city should have, not many people speak english so you can really feel like a foreinger. You can get by with a little help from them as they understand some things. |

i say wandering because that's what you need to do. As much of the city was destroyed during the war, much has been rebuilt-which is beautiful - however, the sightseeing attractions are quite spread out throughout the town. It is beautiful to see nonetheless! well worth it |

Some people told us not to bother going to Warsaw but we are glad we did. We found a beautiful city with so much history and culture. A trip to the Ballet at the grand theater was the highlight. anyone can buy tickets on the day and at great prices. |

Only in Warsaw briefly enroute to Krakow. From what I saw, seemed like a nice place & could do with spending more time here. Old City is really nice & especially impressive as all rebuilt since WWII. This hostel was centrally located & staff were friendly |

Having visited Prague and Budapest several times, I think my expectations of Warsaw were well out of sync with the city. There really isn't the feel of a lively or happening city, espepcially not for a capital. The fact that 86% of ther city had been bombed is very sad, and means that sightseeing is limited- with most of the buildings being constructed in the 50s. The old town is desolate with nothing happneing. Good restauants and pubs/bars were very dispersed and you could wander for a long time without stumbling across anything. Stick to Nowy Swiat area if you want the nightlife. A nice city.... but I am assuming Krakow has more for your average touist. |

nothing really to see or do, but big city with lights and loud clubs |

We went to Warsaw with no expectations but when we arrived everything wad better than perfect. the people were friendly and even if they cant speak your language they can always point you in the right direction. The Old town is amazingly beautiful and peaceful even with the bustle of a big city. it well worth a visit! |

Warsaw was not a very exciting city outside Old Town, but it's worth it just for that. You have to see the capital, but only one day is needed |

to really understand poland, have a look around warsaw...you can see where the waves of invaders have been, and still get an idea of the beautiful older parts as well. |

Very good location. Our doble rooms was not only spacious but also confortable. The bathroom really clean and very cheap. We recommend this hostel. |

Silver Screens play movies in English (not dubbed), easy to get to with trams. Actual clubs seemed hard to find, but you can ask hostel staff (which we forgot to do). Old Town is lovely, though some as usual is under construction. Getting around - you can easily take trams and buses but not so easily find the places they sell the tickets. Don't get caught without one. There's not too much to see, keep it a short trip. Hostels seem quite far from the international bus terminal. We walked the entire way from the international bus terminal to Tamka street, hell of a walk! |

The old city is absolutely beautiful. Great shopping centers. Perfect restaurants. I would recommend a great little restaurant inside the old city close to Barbakan castle named "na prowincji" |

If you want to see somtgh else and u've never seen an East-European country, Warsaw can be nice. The old part of the city centre is really beautiful, there are many resaturants, traditional but also continental and several museums, casles and palaces. But of course don't wait somthg as charming as Cracow...Warsaw is a city where you can feel the ex-communist and post WW II effects (such as the cold grey square blocks architecture). |

We had fun in Warsaw and there's lot to see and do. We're glad we visited before Cracow, which is twice as nice and fillled with little cafés and fun eating places |

Came fro Krakow to Warsaw and must admit that Warsaw has alot to answer for compared to Krakow!
Thats not to say that Warsaw is pants, it has its own vibe but is definately every bit the big city... If you want to go shopping in Poland this is the place to do it! Shopping malls are everywhere and huge, with most of the shops that you would expect to find in Western Europe (but at half the price). Warsaw was hit harder by ww2 and communism and as a result can look pretty grey at times, but then again this givs the city its history and charisma, a must for those interested in history as there are communist structures and monuments scaterred throughout the city, as well as a great history museum which details the destruction of the city during ww2 and the nazi occupation.
overall 6.5/10 (winter)
but would definately come back during summer. |

Watch out for the central train station. Oozing with people ready to take your money. Signs are not well posted on where the sights are. I got lost many times! Not many people spoke English but learn some key words and you can get around fine! |

Boring city. Nothing interesting to see. |

warsaw was great, but i found the men a bit sleazy in the pubs! so be careful if yee gals are on yer own..apart from that, lovely city and great shoppin to be done. and the beer rocks of course! |

the city as a whole is very cosmopolitan and comes with all the perks that a big city does. Gret transport system, many sights and plenty of choice for eating/drinking. |

Well to start off, we'd like to thank the polish people for making us feel so welcome with odd stares and stern looks, it was a really great bond we shared together. We also realized that you should NEVER play the stare game with a polish person, because you will bite the dust, HARDCORE!
We love angry polish people, they're our friends. :)!
In their defence, we did meet one nice polish guy, at KFC, who gave us free sodas, his name was Daniel, shout out to him and hit him up, if ya feeling thirsty!
If you're a girl, you have a decent sense in fashion and you think you're gonna shop till you drop in poland, you better rethink that. Their clothes is not like anything you'd hit up in other parts of europe or america, whereever you're from. Also it's not that cheap, so ya, save your money for a better day.
PS- the chillen is awesome and the food is C-H-E-A-P! SO GO CRAZYYYYY! |

I stayed for a month in Warsaw and I liked it. The place is buzzing and there's so much new development going on it's incredible. The city was razed by the retreating Nazis and it's a credit to the people that they rebuilt as much of the old center as they could. The old center is now being surrounded more and more by glass skyscrapers and other tall buildings, but at least they help to take the drab look off the horrible soviet-built apartment blocks. The nightlife is developing but still quite behind Western Europe. People from Warsaw have a bad reputation among other Poles - they are not much liked because they're a bit uppity and superior, apparently. But I've found them friendly for the most part. In addition to the old town, a visit to the Lazienki park and palace and then further out to Wilanow is very worthwhile. |

city was hard to navigate, old town was disappointing, wilanow palace was nice but not as large as i had expected, difficult to get to if u get bad directions. i would much more recommend going to cracow instead much better! |

A country apart from its heritage is defined by its people. Polish people are among the kindest and finest people I ve met! |

Warsaw is a great city and Oki Doki makes a great base for a trip. The main city centre can be walked easily on foot and transport further afield is cheap and easy. There is plenty to do here from brilliant museums, such as the nation museum and the uprising museum, to great art galleries such as Zacheta. Eating out can be a fun and not very expensive experience. Pirogi is a must but I would advise to be adventurous, Polish cuisine is delicious. In Warsaw I made lots of friends I am sure to keep in contact with, from travelers to locals. The locals are very welcoming and helpful, even the older people who can\'t understand English. Shopping in Warsaw is great, whether you want designer clothes or knick-knacks to bring back home. All in all Warsaw is a great city, a real contrast of new and old.It is a bustling place of culture and life and definitely one of my favorite places. I am sure to come back here and I would advise it to any traveler. |
