We were only here for 2 nights but it was such an awesome place. Definately have to go back and do it properly. The food in Cambodia is all sooooo good and very very cheap. Booze is also very cheap, they had bottles of Moet & Chandon in the supermarket for $33USD. my only regret is not buying...more We were only here for 2 nights but it was such an awesome place. After spending a week in Saigon, where a constant buzzing from motos and people became the norm, Phnom Penh was a welcome relief. Life seems to have slowed down here, and people move at slower pace. You can easly spend your days perusing the markets, drinking some beers, and doing nothing. While Vietnam and Thailand have become overrun with tourists, Phnom Penh still feels undiscovered (although this is quickly changing). I would highly recommend coming here before it's just like every other place in SE Asia.close

I stayed in the lakeside area of Phnom Penh which is more of a backpacker area with lots of guesthouses located on the lakeside, all with decking out into the lake, with a relaxed chilled out vibe. There was initial shock and some apprehension as we drove through the dimly lit streets from the airport to our hotel. Since it was our first time visiting a developing country, my friend and I weren't prepared for the conditions we were witnessing as our tuk tuk driver drove past neighbourhoods that resembled war zones. The route from the airport to our hotel made us think Phnom Penh was an unwise choice, at first. However, the longer we stayed in the city, the more we grew to enjoy it and it's inhabitants. Yes, there are parts of the city where citizens live in squalor, but there are also other parts - particularly the area near the waterfront and the Royal Palace - that are clean, with wonderful shops and restaurants. The people were wonderful, with wide smiles and a wonderful spirit.close

Good value for money, culture right on its doorstep, didnt party here as heard it wasnt the safest place to party and with all the sightseeing, we were too wrecked to anyway! Excellent sightseeing. Hired a Cambodain guy with great English and a nice tuk-tuk and in one day, brought us to all the sights for just USD 25. Well worth it. Went to underground shooting range, killing fields, cheoung museum and the royal palace. The next day he took us to an orphanange which was amazing also. Very easy to get around here. Everything pretty much walking distance but loads of tuk-tuk and scooter drivers around. Started to think everyone thought my name was 'tuk-tuk' after a while!! Loads of great restaurants especially cafe frescos. Nice beer here also and loads of places to go out for few beers but didnt see any clubs. Weather was fab. Very hot but lovely. Enjoy!! I'll def be back here again.close

Sunday Guesthouse 77%
These folks were great! Very helpful in arranging fair priced tours/transfers/transit. Location is just $1 moto to big bar area. Right now 8/27 there is construction, next door that starts around 0800, but not a prob if you get up early or sleep sound.

World Star Hotel 70%
The hotel has nothing to do with what is showed in the photos. The bedroom was really dirty, I changed it for anotherone which was a bit better, but it had leaks. The hotel have a gym and a massage centre, but it doesn't have a lift (I was staying in the fifth floor). Nevertheless, the staff was...

2This is not a clean hotel - i didn't even want to use the bathroom it was so bad (mold etc). The linen on one of the beds in the room clearly hadn't been changed. Old style decor, run down and curtins wouldn't close fully...

Rory's Pub And Guesthouse 70%
Room much too small, and too expensive in comparison with other hostels in Pnom Penh. We did not find the terrace nor were we told, that there was one. Experience was quite different to the photos given in hostelworld!!!

Woolly Rhino Guesthouse 63%
Sorry, I have no good words to say. It is on top of a bar and a very dirty place to stay. The most unacceptable to me is that the room is badly smelling. No hot water.

Sakura Hotel 62%
One of the staff members tried to cheat us when he sold us the boat ticket from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap. Suggestion: if you want to buy travel related services, go to a local agent and not the hotel. In addition, the hotel sort of serves as a brothel as well...so be careful!!!

Frizz Restaurant100%
This place has some amazing food at cheap prices. Ten of us went here are first night in the city, and all of us were very pleased. We tried a wide variety of food from the menu, and everything was superb. I highly recommend the Fish Amok. It was amazing! I have never had anything quite like it, and have been searching for something like it since!...
