A huge city and a very busy one at that. Its great for culture, sight seing etc, but you wont get a sun tan. The dull mist is around all the time. Lima center not the cleanist but if you want a good place to stay stick to the disrict of miraflores. very safe and easy to get into lima by cab.

Despite all the rumours we had read and heard about Lima not being all that great, we had a ball. And it was one of the safest-feeling cities in South America that I've experienced.

I'm sure it depends on the time of year for the weather. It was pleasant, but the sun was a rare occurence. A city with lots of character, but because of the widespread poverty, many folks are desperate, and I felt like I was the main course at a feeding frenzy at times.

Lima is a bit of a sad city , the weather is very average , but when you consider the poverty there , all is fairly understandable. We have been there a few times , and came from either Miami , or Bogota/ Santiago. When you compare those cities and what they offer , then say no more. We have used Lima only for Cusco , or La Paz

Lima is truely the paris of the south in terms of architecture and beauty. we were shocked when we saw the amazing looking centre. our guide book barely made mention of it. we´ve been to buenos aires and many other cities that get the title paris of the south. Lima is the only one truly worthy of the title. loved it.

Big city with all the usual big city interests. Miraflores is a safer, upmarket part of town. Very difficult to judge the rest of Peru based on what you see here.

passing time in lima waiting for friends to come to meet up with. the only expensive thing is airport transfers. lots of time in miraflores, and it´s pretty nice but pretty typical.

To be fair I stayed in Miraflores which is a very quiet town compared to Lima Central but at this time of year (July 06) it wasn´t a place a wanted to stick around in for very long.

Lima is essentially just a big city, although it does have some redeeming features, such as the cliff top parks in Miraflores, artisan markets and the nearby Pachacamac ruins. In our opinion your hostel location and the knowledge of your hostel host will make all the difference to what could otherwise be a rather average stay in this city.

Lima is one of the least attractive capital cities I've ever spent time in - everything is slightly delapidated and shabby. There are plenty of museums, galleries, bars, restaurants etc. but they are really spread out all over the place. There's an almost oppressive air, as if nobody really wants to be there. One saving grace is the weather, it rarely rains.

Barranco is a cool residential area with some killer bars/clubs. It's not like the rest of Lima and I'd rate it. Lima is sprawling, dirty, crowded and noisy. Barranco is an enclave for beach bums, backpackers and barflies. Yeah, it's good.

We were only in Lima for 2 days so we don´t really know much. The biggest tip would be to stay in a sfae area such as Miraflores.

Lima is a big city and offers some good museums and galleries to wander around. The city centre area is not the safest place in the area but as long as you take care of yourself and your belongings there is no reason to avoid the place because of this. The locals I came into contact with were always very polite and friendly and there is good eating and drinking to be had at the upmarket Miraflores Larcomar shopping mall. Superb views from above and lovely Peruvian arts and crafts shops to muse at.

Lima is definately not one of those places i would have visited if i hadnt have been flying into it. It is great as an introduction to Peru, but the city itself has very few "attractions" you would venture over to see. i Spent 3 nights/4 days here, and didnt do anything on the 3rd and 4th

If you go to Miraflores try the Paella on the main street, it's fantastic.

If you can hook up with some locals who know the scene, where to eat and drink, what the local dishes are etc and what to see you will get much more out of Lima than the guide books!

I only got to spend a couple of days in Lima, however what I did was awesome. Made so much easier by my very trustworthy taxi-driver who took me at a very reasonable price to see all the sights! With his limited knowledge of English and my limited knowledge of Spanish we got along perfectly! ...Looking forward to coming back and enjoying the shopping!!!!! Though I would stay in Miraflores next time!!!!!

A big city, much like any other. Way bigger than I thought, but a nice enviroment, clean, and a large numbers of restaurants and clubs at affordable prices. Check out the reaggeatonclubs at pizza street in miraflores!

Lima was a cool city to spend a few days. There weren't many sights to see, and transportation needs some help, but other than that it is pretty cool.

Lima is a fairly ordinary capital city. Although the centre is beautiful and surrounding ruins are really interesting. Probably don´t need to spend more than 5 days - you´ll get bored!

Lima is hectic, dirty and not conventionally pretty. I love it. It is vibrant, with endless options of what to do, where to go and what to eat. Restaurants that rival the best of NYC or London. A serious foodie\'s paradise. Culture is everywhere, pubs and bars as far as the eyes can see. Influences from all over the world impact this fast paced city. Lima never sleeps. Their people are kind, hospitable and extremely friendly. I love it, in fact, I adore it.

The Historic Center of Lima is one of the most important tourist destinations in Peru, and is located principally in the downtown or Cercado de Lima and Rímac areas. There are different places like Archbishop Palace, House of Pilatos, Church and Convent of San Francisco...

It´s a nice, clean and safe hostel. So safe it gets claustrophobic... Ah, and the shower is really hot. Rooms on the first floor, near the reception desk are very noisy. Staff are really gentle and buena gente!
