Imagine a small fishing town surrounded by the ocean...the westernmost town in Europe. Now imagine a place to stay with simple and friendly people to greet you. A place where you can feel comfortable after a day full of excitement surfing at our beaches or a calm day spent walking with the seagulls. That's our spirit! It´s a place for all backpackers, surfers, people travelling alone or in small groups. Our hostel, totally renovated in the late 90´s, is composed of 4 mixed dorm rooms for 4 guests each and 1 double room, a fully equipped kitchen and two bathrooms. It allows travellers to have a good night´s sleep, to prepare their own meals, to do the laundry etc. We have a nice lounge where you can enjoy a DVD or simply relax in the company of a good book. We also offer you 24 hours free internet, and surfboards and bicycles to rent. Peniche is privileged in several aspects, one of which is its wonderful seaside. This Peninsula is known worldwide for its perfect conditions for surfing. Here you can surf every day whatever the direction of the wind or swells. It´s perfect for all kinds of surfers. If you´re a beginner we can help you find the perfect surf school to improve your surfing. If you´re already an expert, you should come and enjoy the miles of great waves along our coast. The road to the Carvoeiro Cape is an unforgettable sight with exotic and rare scenery and geological formations, designed by the sea and the actions of time which have created a work of art. The Berlangas Islands are always present within this vast panorama. Peniche, land of fishermen, has magnificent seafood.. Its specialities are fresh fish, Fish Stew and the famous "Sweated" Lobster or a simple grilled sardine. The Region has many colours: the green of the vineyards, the blue of the sea and the golden sands of the beaches. It's a territory full of intense luminosity where the sea coast and the countryside pair up to offer a pleasant climate all year long. We are also close to night life activities, bars and restaurants. Our central location makes it easy to access the nearby beaches or take fabulous strolls along the coastline. You can also enjoy the nearby gardens, the historic XIV century fortress, small churches and ancient builldings all over town. NB: Please note that due to new regulations with Visa & Mastercard this hostel requires the 3 digit security from the back of your credit card ! Please contact us if you have any questions.

The owner is quite nice but unfortunately part of the staff doesn't speak English at all. Breakfast means coffee, milk, cornflakes and cereals. The poor opinion about FUN is because when we were there (3 nights) they did not care about the hot water - it was totally cold almost all the time :(

This place was great. The two women who ran the hostel were really lovely. We were there during low season, and the only ones staying there that night - so we had it to ourselves. No complaints at all.

this was a very good hostel: clean, nice people, very secure, nice chillzone with typically trendy pillow seats, tv and one pc with free internet access. Hint: they close the chillout/kitchen/tv/pc-area at night (01.00-9.00)! ---------but: we didn't have a room with a window (double bed, shared bathroom). Well yes there was a closable window over the door, out to the corridor. But the room was lovely though. the character of the whole hostel was one of the best on our tour through portugal: The rooms are lovely designed and very nice equipped, you feel more in the house of your friends than at a hostel. The place looked like a surf oasis, the other guests seemed to be all surfers. -----------The best of the hostel is its location! What a great beach! Furthermore, the hostel is very near to the centre with a bar, a cheap fruit market and a big supermarket (all open 7 days a week!). And it's very near to the beach and the bus terminal as well: you get to peniche either by car or by bus from the rede expressos busline, it takes 1,5 to 2 hours from lisboa, and costs only 8 Euros! (september 2008). If you get there by rede expressos bus, get out at peniche centre (just ask the driver), then it's really just 2 minutes to walk to the hostel. -----------there is an easy way to make the very poor breakfast a good breakfast: bring your own! There is a local market right around the corner with bread, fresh fruits and vegetables, fish etc. which is even openened on Sundays and very cheap and very delecious! You just have to know that before you get there… Also at the same place: a little friendly bar, which is also opened 7 days a week, that provides cheap and good coffee, and the famous buns (sweet dough rolls with chocolate or vanilla filling) for cheap money! On the way to the beach, you come near a very big store, open 7 days a week, that has really everything you need, from fresh fish or pasta to body lotions and beach toys ;-) so in this little village peniche there is everything you need, either for surfing or as we did just for swimming in the sea and lying on the nice beach! ----------Details to the poor breakfast, which you don't need as I have just explained: just cornflakes and ususal warm milk. no toast, no bread; no jam, no cheese, no ham. But better than usual was the kitchen's general equippement: you can use the gas cooker and make your own dinner. -----------also unusual: the late breakfast time: 9-11. I f you come to peniche by bus as we did, you might have to leave there at 7 in the morning to catch the early bus to lisboa, which is a time when the kitchen/pc/tv/chillout-area is still closed. And make sure you drop off the keys the evening before. But as far as you don't need any breakfast in this hostel because of the great market and the bar and the big supermarket, it's no problem at all! -----------all in all we would very much recommend this hostel, and peniche, too!close
