Penang is good for the food but not much else, the city is so small and the beach is murky with jellyfish. Only need 2 days to see the beach (main resort is batu ferringhi), the island (mainly the snake temple), penang hill (good if you want a view) and food markets. 4the public transport it so difficult.most of taxi driver is charge too expensive it most worst frm kuala lumpur.at least some in kuala lumpur the taxi driver still used the meter but here not at all.so the cost for taxi is same 1 day price for the hotel.public bus is totaly slow take u 2 hours...more the public transport it so difficult.most of taxi driver is charge too expensive it most worst frm kuala lumpur.at least some in kuala lumpur the taxi driver still used the meter but here not at all.so the cost for taxi is same 1 day price for the hotel.public bus is totaly slow take u 2 hours frm batu frenggi to ferry terminal.food is nice totaly diffrent.but one thing all the shop closed at 8pm everyday dont know why.so hope the local goverment will do something wit this problem so that can make more people come to penang for holiday.close

Door sound, dog sound, people sound, car sound, bike sound, you can hear everything. Plus there are only one toilet and...

Huttonlodge 86%
Too loud in Room 105. I can hear guests talking in the TV/Breakfast terrace. Its a nice place to stay, but I suggest you take the upstairs rooms, unless you are willing to invest another MYR15 on ear plugs, which I did.

Baba Guesthouse 81%
Very barebones guesthouse, but right across the street from the beach and some great local restaurants. Nice staff, but the rooms aren't going to win any awards. Clean and simple, nothing more.

– posted on Nov 2008 9Its a very friendly place and the owners will really do their best to help you out with anything. The location is very good if your looking for a beach as its a 5 seconds walk, but if your looking to be in George Town, its an hour away..

– posted on Nov 2008 6Maybe we were unlucky with the room - it had green thread bare carpets, probably not cleaned from last occupants as cigarette ash was on the floor. Thr room was generally depressing. Great roof garden and friendly helpful staff. The hotel is a short walk from the main drag.

– posted on Oct 2008 15save your money and stay at one of the many guest houses on the actual beach. this is a taxi or shuttle ride away from the real beach and a pain to go back and forth. the place is nice and the staff amazing, but you're not near anything.

I miss Penang and will plan to visit again with my family. Great people, good food at gurney drive. A must visit for local delicacies. Hawker food and only in the evening. Heard it has changed alot since my last visit.
