   This hostel pretty much charges you to breathe. But, it has great facilities, friendly staff, and it's the best location in Paihia.

3. Pickled Parrot Backpackers 83%      

   Sheets were filthy.blood stains.(Need I say more) it was quite disgusting so we slept in our clothes..we would not stay there again....not even a few hours

   A nice little place, very friendly owners, lots of pets if you like that sort of thing, a great kitchen, good facilities, and very friendly place. Only downside is dorms are a little small.

4. Peppertree Lodge 82%      

   Excellent place kind of like a summer island hostel. Right next to the beach and 5min walk from the city centre. Quiet but right opposite the loud Base hostel which is great fun! No lockers in the rooms but lenin and towels provided and heater in room (proved v useful when it got cold one night)....

   The nicest hostel I've ever seen! Very friendly owners, a real nice and clean kitchen, cozy lounge and big television screen, internet access. And very, very clean! I really enjoyed my stay there!

5. Bay Adventurer Apartments and Backpackers Resort 81%      

   Staff was extremely unhelpful, she made us pay more than we should have, claiming that that was because of booking on hostelworld, so we didnt get our 10% deposit back, meaning we now payed 110%!! The door to our dorm didnt lock and on reporting that to the staff, they just said they'd look into...

   It had perfect beachy atmsophere, the swimming pool and sauna were great too although the weather wasn't quite right for it! It was impressively clean and in a perfect location. The only gripe I have was that the lounge/kitchen closed at 11pm and that the internet computers did not always allow...
