Olomouc City Guide

Olomouc, which is located on the Morava River, is home to over 110,000 people. A large percentage of the population are students of the renowned Palacky University. Thanks to this you’ll find a vibrant nightlife in the city with many different bars and clubs to try out. There are also the ‘vinny sklep’ (wine cellars) and ‘vinarna’ (wine bars), serving up the best of the local wines, of which there are quite a few. Found in the Moravia region of the Czech Republic, this city was established in the 10th century and is the fifth largest city in the country. Culture vultures will find this a very enjoyable destination, as Olomouc is home to the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra among others. While you’re here, be sure to check out the Town Hall and its astronomical clock, St. Wenceslas Cathedral, St. Moritz Church and the series of Baroque fountains modelled on various ancient Roman figures. The beautiful Botanic Gardens are also well worth a look. This city hosts a large number of annual festivals, including the hugely popular Christmas markets.
