The bus system is OK, but getting out of Honolulu can take a couple hours. If you have the means, rent a car. We got one with a whole group of people at the hostel since we all wanted to head to the North Shore. It was great and much faster than public transport. The beaches are amazing. So much stuff to do outdoors. The Dole plantation is sooo touristy, but I enjoyed the Maze and pineapple fields. close

overall this hostel is better than average. however when I checked in I was told quiet time started at 11 pm. The reason given was that most guests want to get a long nights rest to wake up early and see the islands. In reality however this rule was loosley enforced most nights the other guests...more overall this hostel is better than average. however when I checked in I was told quiet time started at 11 pm. The reason given was that most guests want to get a long nights rest to wake up early and see the islands. In reality however this rule was loosley enforced most nights the other guests were up until 1am partying loudly outside the window of my room the hostel staff usually would not intervene until 1 am but this seems to be part of the culture of waikiki read traveller tip belowclose

Hawaii is a fantastic place to visit, and Oahu didn't disappoint. The only downside however was the amount of tourists (including me!) so avoid Wakiki Beach if at all possible and find your way to the more remote, less crowded beach spots. Hire a car to get 'round the island and visit the...more Hawaii is a fantastic place to visit, and Oahu didn't disappoint. The only downside however was the amount of tourists (including me!) so avoid Wakiki Beach if at all possible and find your way to the more remote, less crowded beach spots. Hire a car to get 'round the island and visit the pineapple fields, the North Shore (for all you surfers) and Pearl Harbour. Eating out and drinking are good value for money and also a lot of fun. A relatively safe place to holiday however it is a long, long flight from Europe so give yourself enough time to fully make the most of it.close

There's so many places to discover, without suffering of the annoyances we frequently face up to in a country less developped than the US. However, Maui, even though is the most expensive island, is the most beautiful too, with hundreds of hidden places if you like to walk! Have a good trip in Hawaii!close
