Extremely expensive place. Just think about a €3 loaf of bread, or 23€ pack of rolling tobacco or €15 McDonalds menu. Give a reservation a serious thought. We were there over a weekend and everything was booked out some 60 miles around. Now, why go there anyway?? Because it is a beautiful city and it is a great place to visit fjords and that, my friends, is really worth the financial trouble!!close

Rumor has it that it always rains in Bergen but I was lucky and had 2 back to back days of sunshine while I was there. It is a fairly small city and everything pretty much is within walking distance including the cable cars if the weather is nice. I would not spend more than 2 nights here because it can pretty much all be seen in a day or so.close

Top Rated Bergen Places to Stay

  1. Marken Gjestehus 86%

The common room was always full of people who didn't even stay at the hostel, which didn't do the atmosphere any good. Rooms were pretty decent, and it's probably best value for money in Oslo. Silly though that they don't allow sleeping bags even if you bring a mattress and pillow cover.

  2. Jacobs Apartments AS 83%

The apartment was double booked for my stay. As a result, I was forced to stay in a 16 bed dorm room, rather than an apartment. The toilets ran out of tp, the key cards didn't always work in the doors and the hostel did not seem very clean. The staff was very friendly, so perhaps the mishaps...

This was a really nice hotel, the heated floors in the bathroom were a really touch! The only problem is its right in the heart of the city- so theres a bit of road noise. And from the directions, I thought it was opposite the train station- which it isn't, it wasn't a problem, just a bit...

We stayed in a 16 bed dorm (thought we were in for a 32 though so not so bad). It is in a great location, has a great common room and a guest kitchen, lockers etc. We would stay here again

  5. Montana Youth Hostel 74%

Hostel too far from the center 20 min by bus (and take the bus every time is not cheapest). Everything is charging (using the plate of the kitchen, take lot of food in the morning, using Internet...), toilets doesn't work, some staff is agressive. But the rooms are clean and comfortable and...
