Lovely little lodge up the mountain, a bit of a walk with the luggage, but apparently there is a shuttle bus. Very cosy!

A little out of the way but still good value for the price - very clean, safe and friendly, hence nothing to complain about at all.

I would definitely come back here.close

Nice hostel with very good atmosphere and friendly staff. In the evening most guests have dinner together and hang around since there is nothing much to do in town anyway. I stayed in the dorm which was a bit humid.

Was surprised to see they leave room keys in a basket on the unmanned reception. Breakfast was good value and staff were nice.

It is very far away from the station. At least half an hour up hill. The only other gripe would be the thin mattress. But otherwise, loads of character and easy to socialise. Still highly recommended.

nice staff, especially the owner who is awesome. Interesting, tasty, but expensive vegan dinner. Nice communal meals which most people in the hostel seem to go in for, since everything, including restaurants, seems to close around 6 in Nikko. Pricey for the cramped conditions I was placed in.

It's a bit off the beaten path but well worth the walk. The staff were very welcoming and the owner spent a lot of time describing the best places to go in Nikko - which were really awesome.

I loved my time here and really wish I could've stayed longer than one night. The atmosphere is amazing, as are the meals! Try the vegan zen dinner- I guarantee you'll love it! I felt more welcome and comfortable here than I had at any of the places I've stayed in Japan.

For $70+ a night for a room I expected something better. The room was very well worn - the drapes faded in color and plenty of stains on the chairs. It also did not have a TV (as listed) and we had to rent towels. The lodge has character - probably not the type I'm looking for.

What a retreat. After weeks of backpack hostels it was such a nice change of pace. Imagine an Alpine Lodge run by a Zen Buddhist monk in one of the most picturesque places in Japan. I could`ve stayed a week, actually I wish I had!

A nice place but not as nice as the score indicates. The 4 bed dorms were small with not much spare room and the top bunks cop the aircon. The communal area was very nice. no laundry, wifi free, comuter 600y/hr

There is not so much to do at night as the town seems to shut down at about 8 PM. If nightlife is sought, go somewhere besides Nikko.
