People didn't really mix between groups because the only common space was the bar, which was kind of skank. Free champagne for ladies is nice, but perhaps it should be spontanious, rather than from 7-8pm? The kitchen area was too small for the number of people trying to cook there -- dishes remained unwashed for hours. I wouldn't stay here again, even though it was really central.close

Double pun there, hope you liked it! My first visit to Wellington was not the greatest, I was nearly stuck in a hostel with drug users and by drugs I mean marujuana (is that how you spell it?) and didn't like the city I hadn't seen as it felt hidden, away from the water. But having been there a second and third time, yep I stayed in better places and enjoyed it ten fold. Wellington in some ways is too young to define itself, the best way to describe it is a confused place that acts like a big city. Though it sounds tough, it really is a good place to be and easy to get around. Once you find your bearings and get used to the idea that you won't always see the sea. Number one place to go even on a short visit in the Te Papa but if like me you really like Lord of the Rings, go on the Rover Wellington tour, at $40 you can hope on/off and see Wellington Zoo and other places. Also when you're there go to The Embassy Theatre, the best old cinema, I've been to since the last one I know of back home ( in England) was turned into a furniture shop! The weather the majority of the time was really good and being there you witness why they call it the Windy City. Though to be fair most of the cities and towns in New Zealand are windy, just Wellington has the majority of the strong winds. If it did rain, I didn't notice!close

It is a lively, vibrant, friendly nightspot. Be sure to hit the 'bohemian' area to the west and south of the main city centre. By day Wellington is much like any other NZ city. By night (in the right areas) it is a fantastic place to play. Wellingtonians like to deny it, but when the weather is bad there it's lousy! But it isn't bad all the time. Strong winds being the major weather feature.close

Moana Lodge 92%
Absolutely beautiful location, owners and staff at Moana Lodge were very friendly and helpful, they'd even come talk to us during our meal! Very approachable staff, felt like "home." Cleanest accommodation I stayed in on my holiday. I'd come back for sure!

Better ventilation in 12 bed dorms would make a big difference, otherwise a great hostel

Vivo Wine Bar100%
Found this wine bar / restaurant by accident and I would recommend it to anyone. It's a really great place to meet a friend afterwork and the selection of wines is amazing. They were having wine tasting whilst I was there. I had the bruchetta for a bowl of paste for my dinner and both were top notch.

Strawberry Fare80%
Strawberry fare is a great little restaurant that specialises in beautiful sugar filled melt in your mouth desserts. They do a good breakfast and brunch and have a small but good selection of main courses. I found it to be a little bit on the pricey side but not too bad. If you go you cant miss the raspberry chocolate cake.

Te Papa80%
Te Papa is New Zealand’s national museum and has exhibitions explaining everything NZ, from the geological formation of the country to its wildlife and Maori culture. A good resource to learn about New Zealand. As with all large museums, one day to cover it all is ambitious.

Museum of Wellington80%
When in windy Wellington this museum is a must! Find out the history of this amazing city. The exhibitions in the museum will bring you back to the early Māori and European settlement in Wellington... and it’s FREE! It is open everyday from about 10am to 5pm
