After all, There is a strong possibility that some of my ancestors may have landed here from a famine ship seeking a new life in the land of opportunity. The museum itself, which is fantastic and moving is housed in the actual building these immigrants would have passed through, although it was rebuilt after a fire. I got the guided tour while i was there and was well worth it. It lasts 3 hours and the guide was fantastic. Full of little stories. I got the return ferry trip to the island from battery park and I think it was about €8 or so ... but these ferries are very well advertised in hotels/tourist offices etc. The only complaint I would have is there are very basic facilities on the island, toilets/ tiny snack bar, seating. Overall however, a fantastic tour and the views of herself on the way over are spectacularclose

   The Brooklyn Bridge is a historical landmark. It is approximately 1 mile long and has a separate level for people who like to walk or ride their bicycles across the bridge. It offers picturesque views of the Manhattan skyline.

   Go to the Rock at the top of the Rockefeller centre where you can get a super view of New York, the elevator takes you up to almost the very top, then its a few steps to the top - on the day we visited it was cloudy but we still had a good view. If you dont want to pay to go to the top of the Rock you could try the Rock bar - a great place to visit before sunset and you still get almost as good a view as from the top to the Rock Centre.close

    Central park is a must visit when you are in New York. It is much safer than it used to be and lovely to walk through on a Sunday afternoon. You can hire a horse and carriage or stroll arround at your leisure. There are also 2 restaurants in the park.
