This is the place to get the best view of the downtown skyline... the Statue of Liberty, Ellis and Governor's Islands and Goethals Bridges and you'll also get a look at the Jersey city and Brooklyn skylines as well.

Best to take the ferry at Sunset from Manhattan to Staten Island - this way you get to see the famous skyline at day and night. Best of all it's free.

Something most people do when they go to NYC. The first time I went to NY I went to the top at night time and the view was pretty spectacular. The lights are amazing and stretch as far as the eye can see. Its open from 8am to 2am and it costs $20 for adults.

A must when in New York. A cool way to spend a few hours in Times Square. If you want to mingle with the stars or audition for American Idol, you can do it all here. Make sure to bring your camera to show all you friends who you met on you trip to the big apple.

Went to see Chicago in the Ambassador Theatre, just off Times Square. Range of tickets available, we went for the best seats which were 3 rows from the front, however all seats seemed to have a great view of the stage.

Chicago is set in the jaxx era of Chicago city and focuses on two characters, Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart, both of whom are awaiting trials for murder.

Telling the story through catchy songs (eg 'All that jazz' and 'Razzle Dazzle' among others) and brilliantly choreographed dance, the musical is catchy and brilliant fun.

One of New York’s top attraction, beshides all the movie stars like Julia Roberts, Nicolas Cage, Morgan Freeman and many more, the Madame Tussauds show you also some of music's hottest stars, historical figures as well as sports and politics. Even Fidel is there.

The entrance tickets costs between 25,00 and 35,00 USD. If you go to New York you have to stop here.

To take a break from the madness that is downtown New York, St. Patrick's Cathedral is worth the visit. Located on 5th Avenue, it is easy to find if you can pull yourself away from the shopping!

I visited the cathedral on St Patrick’s Day so as you can imagine it was a bit manic.

You will definitely come across it when walking down 5th Av so make sure to go in for a look around, the architectural and historical aspects are worth the look.

Go up it, if you want a great view. Be prepared for endless steps. It's a great experience, book ferry tickets in advance and allow lots of time for it!

Well even though you would think it’s one for the girls I being male and all, I ended up on the Sex and City Tour of New York City last Christmas and I have to say it was great fun.

Besides the fact that our female guide was really good fun and entertaining it was a great way to sight see the less obvious sightseeing hotspots in the city with reasonably detail historical info of same.

The day includes the following which means absolutely nothing to me except the drinking bit in the shows famous bar:

• Sit on Carrie's apartment stoop
• Have a cupcake at the bakery where Carrie and Miranda ate cupcakes
• Stop at a bar used on Sex and the City
• Visit the church where Samantha meets "The Friar"
• Go on location to the gallery in SoHo where Charlotte worked • See the furniture store where Aidan designed his pieces
• Stop at the store where Charlotte bought her "Rabbit"
• Pass the shoe store in Soho where Carrie bought her shoes

The tour takes about 3.5 hours and is great way to start a day of sightseeing.

When you are in New York and you have a bit of time try to see a show on Broadway. Its a great experience! We went to see 'Hairspray' on Broadyway and loved it. You can get your tickets cheaper/half price if you queue at the ticket counter at Times Square that afternoon.

Great comedy club! It is in a nice neighbourhood and the comedians we saw were brilliant. You can actually buy cheaper Comedy Tickets on the street around Times Square.

For the true shopper this is a great day out. This is where you get all the outlet stores from top designers and you can get clothes, shoes etc at a fraction of the highstreet price. I was a bit unsure when going thinking it was going to be a bit like a warehouse or bargain basement but it is like shopping in a nice quiet village. Easy to get to - buses go from Port Authority.

An amazing retreat, its just unbelievable that there is so much green and blue in the midst of the concrete New York Jungle. Its a bliss. An amazing place to go for a good long jog or a walk or just to sit by the lake and read a book basking in the warm spring sun.

My wife and I went here to see Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. The new Jazz at Lincoln Center (JALC) facilities are actually in the Time Warner building overlooking Columbus Circle, a few blocks south of the actual Lincoln Center. But the three theaters are incredible.

Being from Ireland, a visit to Ellis Island was always going to be very poignant. After all, There is a strong possibility that some of my ancestors may have landed here from a famine ship seeking a new life in the land of opportunity. The museum itself, which is fantastic and moving is housed in the actual building these immigrants would have passed through, although it was rebuilt after a fire. I got the guided tour while i was there and was well worth it. It lasts 3 hours and the guide was fantastic. Full of little stories. I got the return ferry trip to the island from battery park and I think it was about €8 or so ... but these ferries are very well advertised in hotels/tourist offices etc. The only complaint I would have is there are very basic facilities on the island, toilets/ tiny snack bar, seating. Overall however, a fantastic tour and the views of herself on the way over are spectacular

Top of the Rock: What a view!! That really sums up my Rockefeller experience. In my opinion its the best view in the whole of NYC, better than the Empire State Building i think, from one side you can see right up through Central park and all of the upper east and west sides and you even get a glimpse further up into Harlem and the Bronx. From the South you can see the Empire State building, Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty, Wall Street...you name it! We went at Christmas time and had great fun looking at the tree in the bottom of the centre, then ice skating and finally climbing right to the top. It was evening by the time we reached the top and we were in time to see all the city lights being turned on...and everything being transformed from purple and blue evening sun to the twinkling city lights at night time. Once of my most memorable NYC moments.

Central Park is a must see in New York!! It is a world away from the mad city that surrounds it!! There is plenty to see and do in Central Park with the Central Park Zoo, the Gardens, Lakes and amusement park or ice rink depending on the time of year. I also enjoyed a horse drawn carriage ride around Central Park which was a lovely way to check out the scenery, New York’s skyline and enjoy the commentary about the park from the drivers.

A summer trip on The Circle Line Boat Tours is a great way to see Manhattan. It gives an interesting perspective on New York and besides, it is nice to be on the water on a hot day. I'd recommend taking one of the shorter trips, as there wasn't much to see after we sailed up the coast. You know your boat trip is too long when the most interesting sight you can see is another boat of bored tourists heading in the opposite direction! Seriously, the full tour takes about 3 hours.

When you don't fancy queueing up for hours to get the ferry to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, get this ferry instead. There's a nice view of the Statue of Liberty from it, and you get it twice! Plus the journey is free!

One of the best free things to do in New York. The walk takes about 20 minutes each way. Can be windy in places! There's a great view of Manhattan from the bridge though, especially at night time.

If you have a day to spare in new york, then I recommend you take a trip out to Woodbury. Its a big shopping outlet mall, with pretty much all the big names there. Some great deals to be had. We went on a Monday so it was really quiet and it was an enjoyable shopping experience - didnt have to deal with the crowds like in the city. Great if you're looking for surf/casual gear, shoes/trainers, jeans etc. Takes about an hour and a half to get there.

One of the many iconic buildings of New York, the Empire State building is truly worth going to. When I was there it was snowing in New York and from the observatory on the 86th floor you could see a beautiful white Big Apple.

I think this is one of the best things to do in New York, it's not something you would do in every city. There are always great shows on, you can get cheaper tickets the day of the show on Time Square at the ticket booths.

Excellent area to hang out to get away from the busy streets of New York. It's very easy to get caught up in the shopping, eating out etc in NY and it's nice to relax in the park and go for a walk, or play on the swings..

Jersey Gardens is the largest outlet mall in New Jersey and it's much closer to New York City than its competitor Woodbury Common. We took the bus from Penn Station and the journey only took about 15 minutes each way. The 111 bus is a shuttle service between Port Authority Bus Terminal and Jersey Gardens. The mall has over 175 stores and restaurants and you'll find all the big names here: American Eagle, Guess, Neiman Marcus, Old Navy, Banana Republic, Abercrombie & Fitch. While I did come across a few bargains here I think Jersey Gardens is much better for men's clothes than ladies. If you're looking for runners or casual clothes then it's definitely worth a trip. Unless you really want to do a lot of shopping I would be inclined to say stay in the city and soak up the atmosphere. The great thing about Jersey Gardens though is that because it's so close to the city you can easily pop out for a couple of hours and then catch a bus back.

During a nice day! it's nice to escape the busy-ness of NYC and chill out inwhere else - Central Park. Enjoy eating a sandwich as joggers jog by, and sitting on the bench with a friend just taking 5 to relax and take it easy before getting back into the rush! Worth to at least walk through once! =P

Simple - I LOVE IT. Shopping is fun - especially on fifth avenue with lots of cash to spend. Obviously comming from the UK the exchange rate works in our my favour when travelling to the US -so you can really go nuts. Although - beware of the added tax at the end when you go to the checkout. And when travelling back - unless you want to get screwed over at the gates - make sure you get rid of any receipts and tags on the clothes and purchases. not claiming to have done so myself, but i'm just saying this is what other people have done in the past and proven to be sucessful!

No New York trip is complete without going to a show on Broadway, this was one of my highlights. We went to Disney's Beauty and the Beast and it was Magnificent as I beleive every show is. It cost about $110- which was pretty expensive but well worth it. If you plan to go to a few shows when you are there, I would reccomend to go to the box office in the morning and get the cheaper seats.

Go to the Rock at the top of the Rockefeller centre where you can get a super view of New York, the elevator takes you up to almost the very top, then its a few steps to the top - on the day we visited it was cloudy but we still had a good view. If you dont want to pay to go to the top of the Rock you could try the Rock bar - a great place to visit before sunset and you still get almost as good a view as from the top to the Rock Centre.

It took 3 visits to New York before i finally took the bus tour, and that was only because someone persuaded me, and i'm glad i listed to them. There are many different companies offering bus tours of new york, we chose this one. You can do a downtown tour (Downtown Loop) or and uptown tour (Uptown Loop) or Brooklyn Tour, or just buy a ticket that does all 3 at a discount. It cost us 54USD each for all the tours, and the tickets last for 3 days so it really is good value. The tour guides are mainly out of work actors, and mainly New Yorkers, and i found most of them to be informative but also interesting and usually very funny. Its a hop on hop off tour, so you can take your time and spend the entire day touring using the bus. You get to see added sights and hear unusual stories, and the guides will often recommend bars and restaurants as they go! Well worth the money, even if you just stay on the bus and 'express sightsee!'
