Be sure to check out the Taiping Museums garden. I know that most gardens in China all look the same but this one makes the entrance fee into the museum well worth it. Just as a note, you should know that the Nanjing Massacre Museum will be closed for about a year for upgrades.close

Of course the foods are delicious and incredibly cheap, but there's much history to visit from the Purple Mountain, Dr. Sun Yat Sen's mausoleum, to Confucius temple, etc. It is a good place to plan visits throughout Jiangsu province and next door Anhui province.Explore the city on foot, by buses, by rented bicycle if you want excitement, etc. I thoroughly enjoyed Nanjing, though I haven;t totally explored all parts of this bustling, modern but also ancient capital city in eastern China. All of you tourists of the world shouldn't miss this COOL city!close

The people at the train station, on the street, etc. all helped me. It is a small city, but there are many stores with cheap clothes and foods. There are also some historical sites, so two days weren't enough for me to see everything. I spent 6 hours at the President's Palace and learned a lot about the Chinese modern history. If you like history, I highly recommend this place. I went to Nanjing in August 2006, and the Nanjing Massacre Memorial was closed (I went to Nanjing to visit this site). I have visited other cities such as Beijing, Xi'an, Harbin, and Shanghai, but Nanjing is my favourite. I would definitely go back to Nanjing in the future.close

GreenTree Hotel Nanjing Yudaojie Hotel 83%
We stayed in a double room and are very satisfied by the Green Tree Hostel. Even if location is not very good, rooms are pretty big and very clean, and the staff very nice and helpful, even if they seem not to really speak English. To notice: when we were in this hostel, the bathroom...

5The staff was extraordinarily helpful, spoke English very well. Big advantage: The airport bus stops only a few meters away. Only drawback: We were bothered by loud disco music from outside until late in the night, even though it was Monday.

Nanjing Jasmine International Youth Hostel 82%
Location was great with buses to most sights within a few minutes walk. Very comfortable room but you do need to walk to the back of the property for a shower and the toilets are not private.

2Overall not a bad hostel, pretty hard to find the place though Good location with lots of great resturants close by. Staff were pretty helpful to. If I had a gripe it would have to be the extemely poor internet connection.

Nanjing Fuzimiao International Hostel 79%
English is a language they have NEVER heard of here. Bank, change money, where, when, how much is already too challenging to understand. Breakfast took AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGES to arrive at our table. We waited both days more than 45 minutes, though there were very few people who ordered breakfast.

6The staff was extra helpful in terms of tourist information and train/plane tickets. Yummy breakfast and comfortable common area. The place wasn't exactly buzzing, but enough people to meet considering the low season/olympic summer visa issues. ps: The female staff have better taste in music than...
