The history of Nagasaki is really interesting and it is really unlike any other Japanese city. Many of the interesting sites are related to the influence from the Chinese and Dutch. If you are from the West, seeing the buildings themselves might not really be that interesting. But if you consider that they are in Japan and are interested in the history of them, it is actually really fascinating to see them all. There are also some temples to see. Nagasaki doesn't really have any famous crafts to buy, such as pottery or woodwork, so it isn't the best place if you are in the market for "things." But you can't leave Nagasaki without trying some castella (kasutera)! I loved the street cars and I highly recommend the art museum. It is a beautiful building and it is in a stellar location, right on the water. The cafe in the museum is a perfect place to rest. The art isn't the main reason to go, unless you are interested in Spanish art. You could cover many of the sites in just one day, but I saw almost all of them in a comfortable two days. Nagasaki is not the place to go if you want to party. There is a small nightlife area, but I don't think that it would be anybody's main reason for visiting. I went in December and it was pretty cold, but refreshing after walking around. I think that it is gets really hot there in the summer.close

For this reason my first impression of the city was very poor. However once you start sight-seeing and get of the main road it`s quite a fantastic and interesting city with a great atmosphere. Out of the places I`ve been in Japan so far (I`m still on vacation!), Nagasaki has been my favourite.close

I can't believe that the hotel didn't even provide soap and towel. Well, no matter how high the cost of living in Japan, but I believe a soap won't cost that much until the state that the hotel can't provide it. For me, is the first time I am frustrated with a hotel.

I LOVE IT! The staff is realrry keen to help! They can speak only japanese but I'm sure you can communicate with them! When I left there, he (the staff) came with us until downstairs and wait and look at us until we walked away quite far. The price maybe a little bit more expensive that...

My four days at this ryokan were wonderful. The room was very nice and the owner and staff are awesome. The location is conveniently close to Nagasaki Station and very convenient in terms of travel within the city as it is in the center of things and a quick walk away from a tram station....

At first, this place was hard to find. Had to enlist the help of a friendly American who had lived in the area for 20 years. Location was very convienient and the owner was sweet, if a little demanding. You are only allowed one shower a day, which is no joke in the heat and my sheets had holes...
