Munich's main square is crowded with tourists but that's only because it's the city's most beautiful square. It's particularly crowded around 12 and 5 when the 'Glockenspiel' show is on.

Marienplatz is the heart of old town Munich. The facade of the Rathaus (City Hall) is gigantic and beautiful, the building was built in the late 19th century; one example of German "Gründerzeit style", a historical backdating style, because the building looks like nit was built in the middle ages.Just around the corner is Frauenkirche, a real piece of medieval architecture and a very dominant one. There are a lot of cafés and restaurants around where you can enjoy a cappuccino with a piece of Apfelstrudel, very nice. You can find a lot of shops as well, however when looking at the prices you will feel that you are in the main square!close
