The building of the church started in 1468; it is 109 meters high and 40 meters wide. Its distinctive domes were built in 1525, the building is very massive, it can be seen from far away. The windows of the church are extremely high and really beautiful and colorful. Underground there is a vault where the coffins of famous queens and kings are placed. One of the most interesting things inside the church is the memorial grave of Prince Elector Kurfürst Maximilian I., made of black marble. There is an interesting legend: inside the church is the 'Footprint of the devil'. According to the legend, the architect of the Frauenkirche, Jörg von Halsbach, promised the devil that he could not see a window from the inside of the church. In return, the devil would help him build the Frauenkirche. After he completed the building, the architect led the devil to the middle of the church from where he could not see a single window, although all churchgoers would sit in an area where a lot of light came through the windows. The devil would have stamped his foot with so much rage that his footprint was visible in the stone floor. As he made one step further suddenly there were lots of windows to be seen, so he saw that he was the looser.close

Five generations of Wittelsbach rulers were involved in the construction of this Baroque castle which started... more Nymphenburg Palace was the former summer residence of the rulers of Bavaria; it is located in the west part of the city in the middle of one of Munich's biggest and most beautiful parks. Five generations of Wittelsbach rulers were involved in the construction of this Baroque castle which started in 1664. The admission fee to the palace is 5 Euro, but there are several interesting buildings nearby, so you can buy combined tickets, depending on how many places you intend to visit. In the park (it was created in 1701) there are several lakes and a beautiful fountain, when the whether is nice and sunny it is great to have a walk here. There is also a “Palace Café” in the park where you can have a drink or even some food. You can easily get there by tram 17 or bus 51; worth visiting!close

   Munich's main square is crowded with tourists but that's only because it's the city's most beautiful square. It's particularly crowded around 12 and 5 when the 'Glockenspiel' show is on.

If you are an opera lover you will feel at home in Munich immediately; they say that regular tickets for the State Opera are not too expensive; so especially if you have never been to an opera before, you should seize this opportunity!close

You can find interesting things here. You can reach it when you have to go underground anyway to cross a road or when you are going to the S-Bahn or U-Bahn stations, just another place to look around. There is a huge shopping centre which can be reached either from here or from above the ground, it is called Hertie and consists of loads of stories, some things are a bit pricey but there are great sales too.close

   The Original Steindl Shop is the best place to buy traditional German clothes (ladies: dirndl, gents: lederhosen). There are loads of different designs and types in many sizes, the only thing is they have only a few fitting rooms and they are always full. The manager is a short and funny looking... more The Original Steindl Shop is the best place to buy traditional German clothes (ladies: dirndl, gents: lederhosen). There are loads of different designs and types in many sizes, the only thing is they have only a few fitting rooms and they are always full. The manager is a short and funny looking guy, very helpful though. However most of the time he can be seen running up and down, bringing you all the blouses and aprons matching the dress you choose. He also gives a glass of sparkling wine to everyone in the shop, to the girls trying on dresses and to the men waiting for them, which is a brilliant gesture, we didn’t mind waiting so long after that. The prices are not so high either, since you will not wear this dress every day anyway, it would not worth paying a fortune for it. The average price of a set for ladies is around €100-140 and for gents €180-220. The shop is located in 19 Tal Street close to the city centre; highly recommended!close

    You may have already seen my review of Stuttgart, if not read it. Munich was a good laugh but it's a bit too commercial. Try volksfest in Stuttgart, it's a lot more fun, great city too
