Munich guide
Nobody likes to harp on about the stereotypes attached to a city when describing it, but it's hard not to when talking about Munich. The Bavarian capital is birthplace of the beer hall where men and women decked in lederhosen line larger than life beers in front of thirsty tourists to the sound of traditional oompah bands. But there is a lot more to the city than that. Munich gets increasingly cosmopolitan every year and it has one of the best selections of museums in Germany. This is why it now rivals Berlin as the most popular city in Germany with travellers.

2Munich is an amazing city. Full of beautifully renovated buildings, a deep and thrilling history (my pers fave being its founding). 1Munich is a beautiful and lively city; it is extremely clean and organized. To start with the airport is a bit far from the city so if you are heading to the city centre you will have to use the S-Bahn (train), line S1 and S8 are going to the centre. You have to buy a day ticket covering all...more Munich is a beautiful and lively city; it is extremely clean and organized. To start with the airport is a bit far from the city so if you are heading to the city centre you will have to use the S-Bahn (train), line S1 and S8 are going to the centre. You have to buy a day ticket covering all areas and the “Partnerkarte” is valid for up to five people, costs €18. Public transport is unbelievable: there are trains, trams, buses and underground and one of them departs to each possible direction every minute so you will surely get where you need to very quickly. It is also very cheap: if there is more than one person travelling the best is to buy a partner ticket valid for three days and up to five people (Partnerkarte), it costs € 21. The city centre is quite big, consists of several squares and pedestrian streets, there are a few very nice churches, the theatre; all the houses and buildings are very clean and in perfect condition, it looks really nice. You will definitely enjoy a long weekend or even a longer time there, eating and drinking out is brilliant, there are loads of types of beers and the food is really good and value for money!close

2Munich was amazing in the spring time. There were so many open parks and places just to go to and enjoy the weather and the city. The sites were nice, exactly what you would expect for a city of that size. I would highly recommend going there, especially when it is warm out.close

2Munich is a really cool city, and succeeded my expectations. There are a lot of things to do and see. Everyone speaks english so it's easy to get around, and if you speak german then be prepared to practice because they have a semi-thick accent. (try "Wirtshaus zur Brez'n" beautiful little restaurant with big portions to average prices and beautiful service ;-) if you get out underground station "münchner freiheit" just walk down in direction of university) chilling is easy in the english or botanic garden.. wheater was 3 days great and 2 days shit...close

– posted on Jun 2008 9Stayed for 2 nights and had a pleasant stay. Staff is very kind towards English speaking travelers. Breakfast was delicious. I stayed in a single room, it was a bit small, but not unconformable. Hostel entrance was a bit hard to find.

A popular beer hall that has many different rooms located around the building in which you can consume their fine food and beer. There is also a beer garden that is very popular among tourists and locals alike.
This is much more than a bar...it's one of Munich's best beer gardens and you couldn't find anywhere better on a hot summers day! Great beer and the usual beer garden fare including brezen, sausages, half a chicken and the rest

Here they specialise in Weissbier and traditional Bavarian cuisine such as sausages, pork and dumplings or cabbage. The restaurant is quite popular among the locals and the waitresses are friendly and good humoured.
Typical 3beer house" in Munich. You can go there for just a few beers, or for a whole lunch/dinner. They are specialized in the famous Bavarian "Weißbier" (wheat beer). A bit cheaper than Hofbräuhaus.

This is an undiscover pub with regard to tourists and as a result has the perfect traditional Hofbräuhaus atmosphere. The interior is rustic and simple and the food is as you would expect good and cheap.
I've been to a few beer halls in Munich but this one is by far the best. As it's a few stops away from the main train station on the tram, it doesn't get too many tourists like the Hofbräuhaus. And the beer?! Oh the beer! It's something else.

A cafe serving good coffee and confections, it is very popular among tourists and locals alike and can be crowded at the best of times. Its specialty is the chocolate Baumkuchen.
Cafe Kreutzkamm on Maffeistrasse is probably the most famous of the "traditional" pastry shops, everything looks so tempting here, it is a bit pricey though.

One of the largest Renaissance churches in the world, construction of which began in 1585. The crypt in the church contains the bodies of many notable Bavarian leaders and royalty and the interior of the church is as impressive as the exterior.
Sankt Michael Church is the largest Renaissance church located north of the Alps, it was built by Duke Wilhelm the Pious between 1583 and 1597 as a spiritual center of inspiration for the Counter-Reformation. It suffered some damage during the Second World War so it was rebuilt in 1946-48. It is located in the city centre, close to Karlsplatz, worth visiting.
