It was the middle of the night so I had to get another hotel close by and it cost $178 but I was desperate to not be on the streets of Bombay late at night. I hope I am not charged for the Samrat. They didn't keep their side of the bargain to pick me up and it cost me a lot of money. Will Dunn jmwdunn@juno.comclose

Centrally located near markets and accessible to public transport like trains ( station one minute away ), buses, cabs. Very friendly staff, worth the price for sure and the staff helped with my trip sorting out ,plane tickets at no extra cost, neat and clean room, very safe and secure place, quick service , good food, wifi was working in lobby. The room was comfortable, had A/C, bath/wc , TV, refrigerator , telephone and was clean enough, and it was very reasonable for Mumbai .Service was superb--fair, honest, kind. I was confused by the various reviews but after stayed there I'd strongly recommend it and especially at that price.A great bargain ! - Davisclose

The place is a dump and there is so much noise ear plugs couldn't begin to do the trick. the toilet wouldn't flush, bathroom door wouldn't close, hair ALL OVER the sheets, smelled horrible. The only good thing about this place was....well there WASN'T anything good!! Stay at your own risk! I know the owner is going to leave a post back saying sorry BLAH BLAH BLAH and how I shouldn't have canceled the rest of the stay and then try to explain there ridiculous fee structure...but honestly Iv'e been all over the WORLD and have NEVER dealt with garbage like that.close

The decor of the rooms could best be charitably described as building site chic. Unfortunately in my room the telephone was broken, the toilet leaked and the mosquito netting over the toilet window torn.I was offered an upgrade at a "special price" to the adjoining hotel singhs, but the room offered was smaller, darker, had a damaged lock and smelt musty,so i declined. The dining room does not open for breakfast,(although 24 hour room service is available) and the bar could best be described as "functional" so opportunities for interaction with other guests is limited, most of whom are short stay buisness travellers. be aware that despite its central location khar is not ideally suited for exploring the city, there is a lack of recreational space within walking distance of the hotel. And if you are an early riser forget about using the trains before 9.15am,furthermore the area around the station forecourt serves as a pick up point for several thousand day workers awaiting contractors vehicles until around 11 am. having said that at night Khar has a unique picturesque charm,it looks more like a bollywood filmset than a typical mumbai street and i was pestered less here by beggers and touts than in the more popular tourist areas.close

It is easy to take the train (for women )into town (Churchgate). But take a 1st class ticket for 78 Rs and use the women only compartment (always at the beginning or the end of the train?green lines). Don't be shocked by the amount of people. Avoid rush hours. (Taxi costs about 300 Rs - daytime)

I am so shocked, for the following reasons, that your website would even dream of booking rooms at this "hotel." Admittedly, I picked this place because it was much cheaper than the rest of the Mumbai places listed, but I think of India as having very cheap accomodations so I figured it would still be a decent. I could not have been more wrong! Here's why: 1. while waiting for the elevator, we were greeted by a very big RAT. 2. there were a lot of locals in the hotel - whether they worked there or not, I do not know - and all they would do is stare at us while we were going into and leaving our room. we did not feel safe to leave anything in our room. 3. this place is on Khar Road, which makes a shanty town look Park Avenue!! It is filthy and full of rats. 4. this place is very far from where tourists go (i.e. Colaba & the Fort). It is a 600 Rupee ride each way - guests may as well stay at more expensive places in Colaba and the Fort. 5. the staff will say "yes, yes, yes" to whatever you ask, but do nothing. For example, "I need a wake-up call to catch my plane" reply "yes, yes, yes, Madam" but no, no, no wake-up call. I assure you, I have had my share of travels in developing countries and stays in crappy hostels, but Khar Road is far and away one of the worst places I've seen, let alone stayed in. please, for the love of travel, remove this place from the website. still disgusted, RMSWclose
