Montreal City Guide

Montreal, the second largest city in Canada, is a modern city filled with color and outstanding shapes and designs. After Paris, Montreal is the world's second largest primarily French-speaking city. Whether you're an active tourist or just culturally curious, there is plenty to see and do. You can hike up Mont-Royal or cycle along the Lachine canal. Fans of art and history fanatics will find much to take in here, with some twenty museums to be found throughout the city, including the Musée d'Art Contemporain de Montreal and the Musée des Beaux-Arts. Go explore the many historic buildings that make up the town or even go see one of the famous Canadian hockey matches. Have a wander around the city's sprawling Vieux-Port area where you'll find the popular Centre des Sciences de Montréal. Spending your hard earned cash won't be a problem here, with a huge array of shops to visit making this city a shopaholic's paradise. Montreal offers a wide range of restaurants serving food to please everyone's taste buds. An effervescent city in terms of nightlife, Montreal is home to a never-ending supply of bars, clubs and discos.

  “ The only true drawback of Montreal was the weather, I arrived at the eve of a massive snowstorm on the eastern seaboard, dropping 12 inches (30 cm) in a day, then this fierce wind for another day. But the city was incredibly beautiful in the winter and the skating in many parks is fantastic.

  “ Coming to Montréal wouldn\'t have been half the fun were it not for the Alexandrie-Montréal hostel. I was supposed to be here for 7 nights, but ended up staying for 7 weeks! I was studying French in the city for that time period, and coming home to an amazing crew… more and great party-loving people every day was pretty fantastic. The city itself is amazing, extremely organized and chill, and the hostel staff just gets you in the vibe much more quickly. Pick a season and come over, you\'ll sure be able to make the best out of it...close
