I recommend to give the city a longer lump of your time than you normally would. it is a city that continually unravels itself for you, in foods - people - sights - history - etc. Whether you prefer walking through Coyoacan on a weekend, Xochimilco, San Angel, The University, Zocalo, the Bosque de Chapultapec, Teotihuacan, etc. one of the largest cities in the world really will express itself to you if you give it the time.close

Well, we went anyway and none of the above happened us. Like any big city you need to keep your wits about you and we were fascinated by the pace and cultural mix in this huge metropolis. There's plenty to see and do, just make sure you get the offical guides and taxis (if you chose to go down this route)- its definitely worth it. The only warning that I would give is to watch out in the evenings as the streets seem to empty and it's quite spooky after the hordes of people that are around during the day. Me and my female friend didn't venture out once it got dark and chose to stay put in our hotel! But I loved this vibrant city and would go back again tomorrow if I could!close

Zocolo is the center of old Mexico City right on the main square across the street from the Catedral Mayor. The cathedral is a must see and takes from thirty minutes to an hour and a half, depending on the depth of your interest. Just behind the cathedral is an archeological site and a museum where Aztec temples have been uncovered. Teotihuacan, the pyramids of the sun and the moon. A two hour trip from Zocolo by tour bus. The price is about 600 pesos per person if you include lunch. Wear shorts, sun screen and climbing shoes. If you take your time, you can make it to the top of both pyramids. This whole site is a must see for any one who is even close to the area. Plan on a whole day for this excursion. Xochimilco Is where the canal gardens still produce flowers and vegetables for sale. An interesting trip to see how things have been done for centuries. This trip will cost about 300 pesos per person and can take a whole dayclose

I also enjoy the musuems in Chapultapec Park; the Anthropology Museum is a must see. In the Zocalo, the murals of Diego Rivera in the National Palace are also something to see. And in the same area, one can visit Templo Mayor. There is so much to do in the City that one can write an entire book just on this city alone: therefore, I will cut this short and conclude with encouragement to go and expericence this city if you ever get the opportunity. The only disappointment for me is the food. I actually like Mexican food in the United States better...the quality of food in Mexico City iis not the same as in the USA....that is just my personal opinion...close

This city is huge, but you don´t feel it when you stay in it.There are milions of small shops and placese to eat on every street, people are really kind and nice, trying to help with your questions...We were using the tube (underground) very ofen, it´s bit crowded, but as in other big cities. It´s very very cheep and quick way of moving in a town and we didn´t find it dangerous.Taxis are cheep as well, but it takes you more time to move with it, because of often traffic jams. Recomended places-archeological musem, museum of Frida Kahlo, Teothiuacan,...close

Riding the metro was a piece of cake (I lived in NYC, so it came natural to me). I took it everywhere. Traveled alone (female) and at first was very hesitant in stepping out in the big city with camera, but did the Zocalo first and once I did so I was a freer person. Engaged people rapidly (native Spanish Speaker) which gave me a lot more insight to many other activities and history not mentioned in tour guide books. Sometimes its was a pain in the butt, all the manifestations going on, cause I would miss sites or things would get canceled but hey Im all for voices to be heard.close

Zocalo80%
This great square, called the Zocalo, evokes the place of homage and center of the world which was the heart of the ceremonial nucleus of Mexico-Tenochtitlan. The Zocalo brings together the rhythmic beating of drums, the ankle-rattles of the native dancers and the glowing incense of modern day medicine men. A point of reference, of protest, of ritual and of...
